A positive vision of the future is possible if we accelerate the use of living soil to effectively reverse climate change, not only reduce future emissions which, is what the world is focusing on today. We can build a flourishing future for all life forms if we change the way we produce our food.

Program

  • Eduard Müller: introduction: Role of regeneration, agriculture, and cattle to reverse the planetary boundaries.
  • Tom Newmark: Magic of soil life and the potential to build to bring atmospheric carbon down.
  • Larry Kopald: Global efforts of TCU in mainstreaming regenerative agriculture and the progress towards effective measurements of carbon in the near future.
  • Abbey Smith: Holistic Management for climate health: livestock as a tool to build soil health. A discussion of this scalable, accessible, biological solution to global climate health through the lens of the Savory Global Network.
  • Mel Landers:  Overview of how regenerative agriculture provides real solutions to the problems of soil life, fertility, structure and water retention and of food insecurity and climate instability, among others.
  • Eduard Müller: Concrete results of Costa Rica Regenerativa.

Presenters

  • Tom Newmark is the co-founder and board chair of The Carbon Underground, co-founder of the Soil Carbon Initiative and a founding member of that standard’s Design Team, past board chair of the Greenpeace Fund USA, and a founding member of the Leadership Council of the Center for Regenerative Agriculture and Resilient Systems at California State University – Chico.  He is also the past board chair of the America Botanical Council, publisher of the peer-reviewed journal HerbalGram. He is the co-owner of Finca Luna Nueva Lodge, a farm and ecolodge in the mountainous rainforest of Costa Rica that teaches regenerative agriculture.
  • Larry Kopald is a branding and communications strategist and a longtime environmental activist. He has overseen advertising for companies like McDonalds, Coke, American Express, and Acura while simultaneously serving on boards from Greenpeace, Oceana, 1% For The Planet and the National Marine Sanctuaries. He has done environmental communications for the UN and the Olympics, and presently works with Fortune 100 companies on how best to merge business goals with positive social change. He co-founded The Carbon Underground, which today is considered a global leader in the movement to transform food and fiber agricultural systems.
  • Mel Landers studied environmental biology, crop science, soil science, paleo-climatology and indigenous agricultural systems. He teaches the ancient Indigenous American Agroforestry system promoted by the IPCC as the technology needed to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change. His understanding of both natural and damaged ecosystems, coupled with an indigenous world view give him a unique perspective on the problems faced by the world today. They are also helping him formulate realistic, matter of fact solutions for reducing the damage been done to earth systems.
  • Abbey Smith serves as the Savory Global Network Coordinator. She is also the founder and director of the Jefferson Center for Holistic Management. The Jefferson Center is the Savory Network Hub serving Northern California and Nevada as well as farmers and ranchers in Oregon, Washington, Montana, and Idaho. She loves that her work with the Savory Institute and Savory Global Network allows her to travel the world with her two children to beautiful (with rich health and biodiversity) places on Earth and be part of a global community (that feels more like a family) working to regenerate land and communities through Holistic Management.
  • Eduard Müller is founder and rector of the University for International Cooperation - UCI. Currently globally recognized for his work in Regenerative Development leading the Regenerate Costa Rica initiative. He is a member of the Global Council for the Wellbeing Economy Alliance, Bounce Beyond, Regenerative Communities Network and others. He is also the chairholder of the UNESCO Chair for Biosphere Reserves and Natural and Mixed World Heritage sites.
