Discovering the history of Nonviolence and seeing it in action around the World.
Nonviolence comes into its own when it comes off the theoretical drawing board into the arena of struggle and cooperation, when it becomes a guiding principle of our life. The enormous, rich history of nonviolence worldwide has long been ignored in education, business, and of course conflict. To recover that history is much more than an academic exercise, however.
- Michael Nagler Michael Nagler is Professor of Classics and Comparative Literature, emeritus, at the University of California, Berkeley and teaches in the Peace and Conflict Studies Program he founded on that campus in the 1970’s. In addition to teaching at Berkeley he frequently speaks for media and the general public on issues of peace and nonviolence and does presentations around the world for the Blue Mountain Center of Meditation. Michael has written six books and contributes articles frequently to Tikkun, YES! magazine and many other progressive journals. He has consulted for the U.S. Institute of Peace and many organizations and projects dealing with nonviolence and world peace. Michael is the Founder/President of The Metta Center and Director of “The Third Harmony”.
- Tom Eddington Tom Eddington is an author, Executive Coach and Business Advisor, and Executive Producer of “The Third Harmony”. He holds an M.S. in Organization Dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania. As a scholar of nonviolence and Conscious Leadership, he is passionate about bringing this work into the world which he does through his coaching and advisory work, film and media projects and Board positions. He is the Managing Director of Eddington Advisory Services.
- Kathy Kelly Kathy Kelly is a peace activist whose efforts have sometimes led her to living in war zones and prisons. She and her companions believe that “where you stand determines what you see." She and an ad hoc circle of internationals have been assisting young Afghans to resettle in safer havens. She co-coordinates the BanKillerDrones.org, is board President of World BEYOND War, (worldbeyondwar.org), and is planning the 2023 Merchants of Death War Crimes Tribunal
- Gilda Bettencourt Gilda Bettencourt's work for & support of Nonviolent Peaceforce goes back to 2001, shortly after NP began to organize itself. At that time, she volunteered with the San Francisco Bay Area NP Chapter and has been part of NP staff since 2004. She has been part of the Board of the Metta Center for Nonviolence since 2005. Gilda was born & raised in the San Francisco Bay Area.
- Banafsheh Sayyad is a sacred dancer, choreographer, teacher of embodiment and an activist dedicated to women’s rights, especially in Islamic countries. She is the founding director of Dance of Oneness®, Doctor of Chinese Medicine, and co-director of the Ubiquity Chartres Academy. Banafsheh performs and teaches internationally, initiating people into the wisdom of their bodies, inspiring them to live their everyday life as a sacred dance. She is among the few bearers of authentic Persian dance in the world, and a pioneer in creating a liberated feminine expression in the Sufi dance genre previously performed only by men. Her modality, Dance of Oneness®, is dance as a spiritual path and science of embodiment. It is a fusion of the art of dance: rigorous technique and self-expression, healing and wisdom teachings. With an MFA in Choreography and an MA in Chinese Medicine, Banafsheh is dedicated to individual and collective healing through conscious dance. She currently teaches courses online. ::https://danceofoneness.org/::
