Learning from the active nonviolence campaigns around the world.

Nonviolence comes into its own when it comes off the theoretical drawing board into the arena of struggle and cooperation, when it becomes a guiding principle of our life.  The enormous, rich history of nonviolence worldwide has long been ignored in education, business, and of course conflict.  To recover that history is much more than an academic exercise, however.

  • Michael Nagler is Professor of Classics and Comparative Literature, emeritus, at the University of California, Berkeley and teaches in the Peace and Conflict Studies Program he founded on that campus in the 1970’s. In addition to teaching at Berkeley he frequently speaks for media and the general public on issues of peace and nonviolence and does presentations around the world for the Blue Mountain Center of Meditation. Michael has written six books and contributes articles frequently to Tikkun, YES! magazine and many other progressive journals. He has consulted for the U.S. Institute of Peace and many organizations and projects dealing with nonviolence and world peace. Michael is the Founder/President of The Metta Center and Director of “The Third Harmony”.
  • Tom Eddington is an author, Executive Coach and Business Advisor, and Executive Producer of “The Third Harmony”. He holds an M.S. in Organization Dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania. As a scholar of nonviolence and Conscious Leadership, he is passionate about bringing this work into the world which he does through his coaching and advisory work, film and media projects and Board positions. He is the Managing Director of Eddington Advisory Services.
  • Rivera Sun Author/Activist Rivera Sun has written numerous books and novels, including The Dandelion Insurrection and the award-winning Ari Ara Series. She is the editor of Nonviolence News and the Program Coordinator for Campaign Nonviolence. Her articles are syndicated by Peace Voice and published in hundreds of journals nationwide. Rivera Sun serves on the Advisory Board of World BEYOND War and the board of Backbone Campaign.
  • Michael Beer has been Director of Nonviolence International since 1998. Michael is a global activist for human rights, minority rights and argues against war and casino capitalism. He has trained activists in many countries, including Myanmar, Kosovo, Tibet, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, India, Zimbabwe, and the United States. He is a frequent public speaker on nonviolence and has been broadcast on CSPAN, CNN, and other major media outlets. Michael is the co-parent of two children with his life partner, Latanja.
  • Ivan Marovic an organizer, an educator and a social innovator who currently works at the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict. He was a student organizer and one of the leaders of Otpor, a resistance movement which played an important role in the downfall of Slobodan Milosevic in 2000. Ivan holds a BSc in Process Engineering from Belgrade University and an MA in International Relations from the Fletcher School at Tufts University. He currently lives in Washington DC.
  • Mary L. Hanna hails from Detroit, Michigan though she’s made her home in Laingsburg for many years now. She received her Master’s degree in Behavior Disorders from Vanderbilt University, and worked as a counselor/case manager for Community Mental Health for 20 years before becoming the Operations Manager for Meta Peace Team (MPT) in 2005, where she coordinates both MPT’s Violence De-escalation Skills Training program and their internship program. She has served on both International (Palestine/Israel, U.S./Mexico Border) and Domestic peace teams (those within the U.S). Additionally, she became the Pax Christi Michigan State Coordinator in 2015, and was named a Pax Christi USA Ambassador of Peace in 2022. She is currently working on a handbook for Domestic Peace Teams. Mary is committed to compassionate, assertive nonviolence, social justice, creative peacemaking, and the spiritual underpinnings that make it all possible.
  • Rosie Davila is the Art and Media Coordinator for Pace e Bene Campaign Nonviolence. She is an artist and a poet, and a senior at The University of Kentucky. She lives on a flower farm in Central Kentucky with her twin sister and her parents.
