Technological advances in healthcare have driven profound understanding and change over the past several centuries resulting in extraordinary knowledge of the human body. This next generation of technology is embracing creativity and holds the promise of expanding our understanding and moving beyond the paradigm of the body as physical anatomy.

Panelists: Dr. Alexandra Greenhill, Dr. Amit Baumel

Moderators: Tom Eddington, Dan McCann,

Dr. Alexandra T. Greenhill is an ER and family medicine doctor, one of the leading physicians in digital health innovation, and one of the co-editors of the "AI in Clinical Medicine" book (Wiley, 2023). She is the Founder/ CEO and Chief Medical Officer of Careteam Technologies, a next generation care platform enabling health teams to support patients with complex health issues along the journey from symptoms to diagnosis to treatment. She is also on the Boards of Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) and Cancer Research Society, as well as Chair of the Board for the Vancouver Foundation and Physician Innovators.

Dr. Greenhill is adept at translating digital developments into meaningful advancements to help people live life well. She believes entrepreneurship and technology hold the answers to the greatest issues we face today, including in health care - where the increasing complexity leads to confusion and costs and a huge and growing gap between what is possible and what is happening.

After having implemented health innovation at scale, she now leads and advises Canada's most promising technology companies. Dr. Greenhill's work has received many recognitions, including Top 40 under 40, Startup Canada’s Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award, WXN Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada and Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal of Service.

Dr. Greenhill's work has not only benefited the medical community but has also positively impacted the lives of countless patients. Her profound expertise continues to drive transformative change in the healthcare sector, fostering a brighter, more technologically-empowered future for health.

Amit Baumel, PhD.

As a licensed clinical psychologist and Associate Professor, Amit Baumel leads The Digital Interventions Psychology Lab at the University of Haifa's Department of Community Mental Health. Previously, he worked as an assistant professor at the Zucker-Hofstra School of Medicine in New York, having earned his MA and PhD in clinical psychology at Bar Ilan University.

His academic interests revolve around (1) understanding what makes people engage with digital programs, (2) exploring how digital tools can assist individuals in helping others, and (3) developing theories about how technology impacts emotional well-being. Notably, he has created accessible programs to improve parent-child relationships and train volunteers to support individuals with postpartum depression and psychosis, reaching large audiences globally.

Amit's research findings are published in respected psychology and digital health journals, showcasing his expertise in the field. He serves on the board of directors of the International Association for Research on Internet Interventions, acts as a scientific editor for a leading journal, and played a key role in establishing the First International Congress for Parental Support.

In 2006, Amit's journey into the high-tech world began unexpectedly when an entrepreneur sought his expertise to understand user behaviors on a website. Since then, his blend of psychology and statistical skills has led to consultancy roles with over 70 companies, two startup ventures, and leadership as head of a data research team in another startup. Explore more about his work on his lab's website.
