Introduction:

Humanity is both witnessing and creating the collapse of natural and human-made systems including healthcare, financial services, education, food and agriculture to name a few. This collapse is a result of population growth, climate change, our level of human consciousness and the reality that the human-made systems have outlived their utility. It is time for us to hospice out these old systems and midwife in new systems. Many of the new systems being created can be aided by technology. To support humanity during this tumultuous time of transition will require that each of us embrace creativity and resilience; two essential competencies for the 21st Century.

"Technology of Hope" encompasses a diverse array of tools, processes, and innovations aimed at fostering positive change and addressing pressing global challenges. This thematic week of programming seeks to explore how various technologies, both traditional and unconventional, can be leveraged to inspire hope and drive progress. From software and AI applications to grassroots initiatives and community-driven solutions, we aim to showcase how technology, in its broadest sense, can serve as a catalyst for social, environmental, and economic transformation through the lens of creativity.

Day 1: The Role of Creativity in the 21st Century:

Creativity has often been regarded as the domain of the musician, artist, or placed in a box that could only be taken out and used in select situations for the common person. The reality is we are all born with the innate ability to create. It is our birthright and one of the opportunities of life. Today’s exploration will be about creativity, how we awaken and engage it, foster it in each of us in service of the world.

Moderators: Dan McCann, Tom Eddington

Panelists: Michael Ray, Diana Ladio

Michael Ray is Professor of Creativity and Innovation and of Marketing, emeritus, at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business. He is a social psychologist with extensive experience in business. His courses and service on boards of directors and as a consultant in Silicon Valley led to his co-authored books, Creativity in Business, The Path of the Everyday Hero and The Creative Spirit (companion to a PBS series based on his Stanford course) and to his sole authored book, The Highest Goal. All this is somewhat summarized in a Fast Company magazine about Michael and his course called, "The Most Creative Man in Silicon Valley."

Diana Ladio is a 5-string violinist, writer, and educator based in Nashville, TN. She formerly co-fronted the electric strings ensemble, The Moxie Strings, with whom she toured internationally for over 17 years, earning accolades including a Billboard #1 in the Classical Crossover category. Additionally, since 2015, Diana has showcased her talent as the fiddler for Celtic rock outfit, The Elders, performing on stages around the globe.

With a passion for nurturing musical talent, Diana has conducted workshops in hundreds of schools nationwide, advocating for the importance of musical exploration and creativity. She is the founder of The MOX Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing musical opportunities to underserved students and communities.

In addition to her musical endeavours, Diana is an advocate for emotional health and wellness, sharing her experiences as a traveller and musician through her blog and publications like Strings Magazine. She is a proud graduate of Ryzio Institute and passionate about the intersection of healing and creativity. Through her multifaceted career, Diana continues to inspire and empower musicians of all ages to find their own unique musical paths.
