I wrote a poem yesterday, titled WAR and how it brings men together....it's not brilliant but sort of relevant ---and yes, I absolutely love, and feel for, men...as harmed by patriarchy as everyone and everything else -- may I somehow send a pdf?

In my opinion: The original moonshot was all about beating the evil Russians to be on the moon first. Quite the (toxic) masculine goal setting. Too much money was wasted on this. It would have been better to use all that money to improve healthcare in the USA. Once the moonshot project was over all of the money went to the military, another big waste.

I'll look up the platform for college students. I've become aware recently of a rash of male college student suicides at an engineering college. As a former engineer, I also think about the ways that tech or engineering cultures can prioritize analytical vs emotional aspects of our capabilities. For some time I did that as well and so appreciate the pressure. But suppressing EQ doesn't help with inner reflection and balanced health.

@Jaran: I agree with what you say IF we can replace MEN by EVERYONE. I also believe that we have to put on our own oxygen mask before being able to help others. In other words focussing on one’s own emotional issues is a good FIRST step to helping others.

In my opinion, Joran, many of the world’s problems (war, violence, addictions, climate change) stem from men’s untreated emotional issues caused by trauma (from war, violence, classism, other oppressions, isolation, etc.). Addressing these issues will help both heal and prevent many of the world’s problems.

COMMENT: As an African American male psychologist, my experience has been that many of therapeutic approaches that are used are somewhat culturally limited when applied to Black men. I’m glad to hear that the approach used here does include racism as a factor. I gave a talk once on this issue awhile ago.
