00:06:02 Shannon McArthur (she/her): Provided by Heather: And this from my Sunday morning local paper. Climate vs affordable housing false narrative. ::https://www.columbian.com/news/2023/apr/09/affordable-housing-vs-climate-code-creates-clash-of-crises-in-clark-county/::
00:07:45 Stanley Pokras: 267-968-0407
00:08:15 Stanley Pokras: This is the afterchat for day 673
00:09:02 Katie Augustine: Here to listen in for a little bit - not feeling well so probably stay off camera!
00:09:59 Kevin He/him Canada: It’s like Kat has the whole ski hill all to herself
00:13:16 Kat Haber: And these laws seem to see saw between progressive/conservative. SVB may not have happened if tighter refs were still in place? It’s last few days in Beaver Creek closes this Sunday. Vail next Sunday.
00:15:53 Stanley Pokras: Katie, are you familiar with William (Bill) Black. Somewhere I have a revealing interview with him. He was bringing the law to bear on bankers during the 2008 banking problem.
00:17:37 Katie Augustine: I’m not, Stan, though I would love to hear the interview.
00:18:11 Heather Tischbein: Thank you, Kevin. It’s those beliefs about expectations on ROI drive the conversation.
00:19:00 Kevin He/him Canada: The ROI discussion is my sweet spot
00:19:01 Kat Haber: Yes. You have that correct. Capitalism is about building in a profit motive. Until we make housing circular like a regenerative life in Earth, we-the public- will be required to subsidize the private profit of builders/construction companies/manufacturers of building materials-including striping our thresss major Earthly rainforests of trees that generate and regulate our hydrology for a stable climate in which to live.
00:19:34 Kevin He/him Canada: ROI seen through the eyes of youth, IN leadership.
00:20:43 Stanley Pokras: Bill Black: Fraud and Financial Regulationhttps://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiL_KrMoqL-AhV2EFkFHVQBC1oQwqsBegQIDBAH&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DWQBIfSWDx9s&usg=AOvVaw3QT1NEg3oGh4tfvnmFXh5-
00:21:53 Katie Augustine: Thank you
00:22:09 Shannon McArthur (she/her): Isn’t it non-constitutional? Doesn’t that make it illegal? Thus not enforceable…
00:22:41 Stanley Pokras: William K. Black ::https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_K._Black::
00:23:50 Shannon McArthur (she/her): The Redress Movement
00:24:13 Leo Jacoby: ::https://redressmovement.org/staff/richard-rothstein/::
00:25:14 Heather Tischbein: I have a son who’s on the board of a local credit union and a director of strategy for a local architecture firm trying to do “affordable housing” projects. And another who’s a professional “wealth manager”…and the three of us have been talking for several years around how to introduce the notion of a local REIT…along the lines of Iroquois Valley…here. April, do you have a set of questions we could/should be asking in both the public and private sectors to shift the conversation here? Our original inquiry started around trying to “save” a local organic farm from being sold to a developer to maximize profit to housing development. We lost that one.
00:25:38 Stanley Pokras: How Wealth Rules the World – Ben G. Price ::https://othernetworks.org/How_Wealth_Rules_the_World_%E2%80%93_Ben_G._Price:: Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund (CELDF)
00:25:52 Leo Jacoby: ::https://redressmovement.org/about/:: (The Redress Movement emerged in response to Richard Rothstein's book, The Color of Law, which comprehensively documents the intentional laws, covenants, …)
00:26:06 Kurt Krueger, PeaceMakers Circles/Network: What happens when we focus on what we want?
We know the history and how horrible people and our planet have been treated.
We are living NOW, and can create a new reality when we focus upon it. When we want virtues and values to be expressed by others, how do people learn these? DO our schools educate for quality character? Does our society have a 200 year old economic system creating good for all? What can replace it?
Research shows that when the least of us is uplifted/educated/healed, it VASTLY improves all others.
The Stoics had an expression: Acta non verba. Deeds not words.
00:26:08 April De Simone: Here is the REIT:

00:30:55 Heather Tischbein: CELDF got started around protecting “local farms” against factory hog farming…and then rural land protections against fossil fuel fracking developments.

00:34:01 Kim Kerrigan: Thom Hartmen is fabulous! Read everything he writes, plus a great podcast.
00:40:54 Katie Augustine: I’m staying off video because I’m so sniffly ;)
00:41:40 Heather Tischbein: Here’s an innovative model for funding “regenerative agriculture” that may have application for “community funded housing”? ::https://gosteward.com/about::
00:43:32 Shannon McArthur (she/her): 40% of farmers in Canada will retire over the next decade. I wonder where they will call home, and who will call their farms home…
00:44:03 Heather Tischbein: Indeed, Shannon. Similar statistics here.
00:49:36 April De Simone: Thank you! Spot on Kim...here is my email address if anyone wants to continue the conversation:
00:49:43 April De Simone: april@thepracticeofdemocracy.com
00:49:55 Shannon McArthur (she/her): Thank you so much, April. I hope you can stay to hear Kevin?
00:50:34 April De Simone: My apologies but I will have to jump at 1:15 p.m. for another call. This has been amazing and appreciate everyone's energy.
00:52:17 Shannon McArthur (she/her): A Simultaneous World-Wide Water Ceremony is taking place on May 5 @ 5:55:55
