George, one BIG threat to democracy in US you have failed to highlight and address is the infiltration of law enforcement (police, sheriff's, even military) by alt-right, neo-Nazi, fascistic elements. Presumably, Def Sec Austin is attempting to "weed out" the military. But sheriff's are elected and elected city councils have influence/control over police forces. This is a trigger to potential armed civil war on the streets. Agree, however, the BIGGEST threat to US democracy is lack of awareness and/or lack of concern by We The People.

Humanity in its adolescence. The USA in its infancy, only a few hundred years old. Built on borrowed idealizing indigenous values, but a rebel towards Colonialist Great-Britain, to keep the spoils of a virgin land, colonizing and exploiting its riches and ooriginal peoples, bringing slaves, etc.,. There is real discrepancy between the ideals and the role America has played in worldwide colonialism, in its turn. The life and "democracy" we try to defend is at the cost of savage capitalism based on denial of rights of Life, and people other than its priviledge unconscious Western majority. A catalyst might be Humility, and the ability to face our collective shadow, as this program is doing this morning. There can no longer be a single point-of-view for the whole world. Let the freedom apply truly to other nations, not that I am encouraging fascism or other dictaturial forces. Let's trust some of the older cultures. I am not sure that we still see John Kennedy as the golden boy we lost with such grief.
