This is a five day program focusing on the crisis of democracy in the United States. It will continue as part of Humanity Rising programing until the November 2022 elections. Today we will hear from the Movement Voter Project (MVP).
This is a call to action, prayer, a plea to all of us who still believe in the value and promise of Representative Democracy and who appreciate the extraordinary gifts and opportunities this system of governance offers us in our quest to create a more perfect union. This is a call to all who have had enough of this current form of insanity masquerading as partisan politics and the duplicitous and seditious behavior of those who brazenly violate our Constitution and the values and standards that have allowed this Democracy to survive for 244 +years.
This is a call to all who call ourselves citizens and who know that it is long past time to act, in fact, know that time is dangerously close to time running out. Who know it is time to wake up from this seeming fog of denial and confusion that has many of us in its grips. Time to acknowledge the seriousness of the threat and of crimes being committed by those within our country and beyond its borders who are intent on destroying Democracy.
We simply can no longer afford to keep our heads down and our voices silent and hope that someone or something will somehow magically appear to save us, and this noble and still unfinished dream called America
It's time, in fact, for We the People to answer the call not just for ourselves in this time but for all time and for those who are standing in line behind us and for those who are not yet even in line. It's time to honor our responsibility as citizens of these United States. For this is the only path by which we can hope to ensure that this still imperfect, but in truth, noble dream can continue.
This is what the Democracy Dialogues are all about. Why over the course of this next week and during several more weeks of programming, you will meet a remarkable collection of human beings who are on the ground, in the trenches, creating strategies and doing all they can to ensure that We the People, understand the seriousness of the challenge and are doing all they can to ensure that we cast our votes, contribute our time and energy to supporting candidates who still believe in upholding their oaths to protect and defend our constitution, to volunteer, to canvas, to raise funds that will allow them to do their part to better understand and the bridge our divide. All in the name of saving our Democracy and with it humanity, the other species and our precious habitat. Please join us. The life and democracy you save will be your own.

- Billy Wimsatt has more than 25 years of experience in journalism, philanthropy, organizing, and social entrepreneurship, and has advised hundreds of donors to strategically invest tens of millions of dollars in hundreds of organizations and initiatives in 48 states, often with crucial seed funding to start, to scale, to launch c4s and PACs, and to voterize their work. Founding and building Movement Voter Project (and its c3 counterpart, Movement Voter Fund) has been the culmination of decades of work to support movements and progressive electoral and social change. Before MVP, Billy co-founded several efforts, including Gamechanger Networks, League of Young Voters, Generational Alliance, Ready for Warren, Solidaire Network, Coffee Party, VOTE MOB, Student Power, and Rebuild the Dream. He has consulted with numerous organizations including the 2008 Obama Campaign, MoveOn.org, Rock the Vote, the Ohio Democratic Party, and Green For All. He is the author or editor of six books on social change and his writing has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Washington Post, The Nation, and Vibe.
- Eric Brakken is Florida State Advisor for MVP, and has been an organizer for the past 22 years, starting on campus at the University of Wisconsin. He co-founded United Students Against Sweatshops in the late 90s and organized students nationwide around international and domestic labor issues for several years. An organizer with SEIU since 2001, Eric led property services organizing in Florida for 10 years, including a two-month strike of University of Miami janitors and groundskeepers in 2006 to form a union and a successful organizing drive of UM’s food service workers in 2013. Director of SEIU Florida State Council starting in 2014, he worked to build a statewide community union and political strategy with SEIU members and community allies. Eric is now focused on working with labor, community, and political organizations to build progressive infrastructure across Florida toward a long-term vision of economic and governing power.
- Brandon Snyder
Movement Voter Project (MVP) works to strengthen progressive power at all levels of government by helping donors – big and small – support the best and most promising local community-based organizations in key states, with a focus on youth and communities of color. We support hundreds of incredible organizations that both turn out unlikely voters and organize communities to grow their power and create transformation, from policy to the streets. We believe that supporting local movement vote groups is the most effective and most cost-effective strategy to transform our country. ::https://movement.vote/::
