I am listening with my heart breaking trying to stay and hold what darkness is the mind the perpetrator - what violent disconnect - and we in SA have the current perpetrator of poverty, hopelessness and the pain of systemic racism during apartheid. We had schools like this too - not only for black people but for certain white boys. And now the structures are so broken down as the current government has eaten the money to abandon their own: the dynamics of not being able to see one’s own people suffering - that you take all that could be away from them in an unconscious justification that the money of white capital is just for taking…the cycles within - of perpetrator and victim - so immense - need so much in us to hold: thank you Chief Phil for holding and for honouring.

Like a wildflower.
So innocent and pure her first season in bloom. She breathes in the fresh air and dances with the sunrise; swims in the spring rain. So innocent and pure this Lakota wildflower.
Without warning she is torn away; roots barely intact. The darkness continues to slowly tear away her precious petals one by one until she is tossed aside to wilt with pain. She tries to hold on but the air is no longer fresh making it hard to breathe. The summer rain stings the open wounds.
She now dances with the sunset to hide the shame. So sad and alone this Lakota wildflower.
The cold settles in as her roots lay frozen in shock. She questions this pain and yearns for the innocence; her dances with the sunrise and swimming in the rain.
Her roots planted deep down tell her it is time to rise up; it’s a new season. She slowly takes in the sunlight and the rain and with a big breathe of air grew into a new wildflower; a Lakota wildflower! - Ginastillsmoking recites this poem to abused girls

Natayo, Phil and Daniel thank you… miigwetch. You remind me of the words of Ojibway author, Richard Wagamese: From our very first breath, we are in a relationship. With that in drawn draft of air, we become joined to everything that ever was, is and ever will be. When we exhale, we forge that relationship by virtue of the act of living. Our breath, mingles with all breath, and we are part of everything. That’s the simple fact of things. We are born into a state of relationship, and our ceremonies and rituals are guides to lead us deeper into that relationship with all things. Big lesson? Relationships never end; they just change. In believing that lies the freedom to carry compassion, empathy, love, kindness and respect into and through whatever changes. We are made more by that practice.
