What he’s saying about warbred AI removing human accountability reminds me of a great original Star Trek episode called “ a Taste of Armageddon” about an alien planet where AI computers fight their wars via computer games; so no bombs or soldiers, no carnage. However, the loser of the battles must sacrifice a % of its people….and the people willingly sacrifice themselves - Spoiler. Kirk blows up the AI computer.

Some parts of the military are recognizing military moral injury—long-lasting impact from violating deeply held moral principles. Not only can MMI impact force “readiness,” but it can lead to corruption and whistleblowing. And, outside of the military, MMI folks can be challenged in raising good children, and otherwise having “good” lives. So, I note current efforts to blunt the impact immoral agency in war. Israelis currently seem to be implementing AI in blasting Gaza. The victims are left to clean up the mess (not unlike the practice in holocaust concentration camps.) US chaplains are schooled to describe what vets do as “targeting” not killing. And yes, part of the research in dealing with trauma specifically looks at erasing memory.
