Hello from Tucson, AZ. I am on the Autism Spectrum and hope to post here so that we are all on the same page. With that being said, how can I save the Chat? In 1972 I wrote a final paper for one of my professors called THE MYTH OF THE LIBERATED MALE. The department secretary I gave it to looked at it an promised to give it to my professor. He never got it, but he's a great guy and writer so he had me sit in his office for 45 minutes and present it for him. Then he critiqued it but I got an A+. Years later here in Germany my friend's daughter had me write a piece for her college Course on Why I am a Feminist Supporter.

She got a good grade on it, and after the hunter/gatherer stuff and how women are tasked with 9 months of pregnancy and what I learned face to face from Australian Dr. Helen Caldicott, a leading ecologist, was men are genetically bred to go out and procreate as much they can sometimes 6 times per day, while women are designed differently. It helped her come to peace with her husband's infidelity.

I don’t want to speak for my colleagues, but I think it’s fair to say that anyone who identifies as male is welcome to be acknowledged as a man. Same as with those non-gender identified. But that’s not to extinguish all differences between men and women.

I would appreciate that Posts here not use the word "We" unless it is obvious who that is. Also, for me, please use words such as "in my opinion" or "in my judgment" in this Chat because I am more likely to hear what you have to say since you are owning your message and not speaking for me or anyone else. If sex creates the health problems and since we can not change sex (DNA). Then why have this conversation. In my opinion it is GENDER (a social construction) that creates the health problems. So we need to focus on GENDER and not on sex differences

@len robinson, a lack of trust is possibly a misnomer... as is enculturated. Humans all have deep biologically wired self-preservation and protection instincts (as Jed just said, for billions of years) and the male version is amped up in our DNA. The inherent lack of trust is about risk...trust is about us, risk is about the possible threat from others. our modern society massively reduced our need to rely on those instincts - thus it seems our behaviors are a product of culture as opposed to instinct. When I am in a group of men, we don't create a "safe space" we emphasize a "risk-free" environment. Many men simply don't worry about safety...buy they are hypersensitive to risk - real or perceived.

It also seems reasonable that we can't know for sure where the line is between sex (dna) and gender (ideologies/culture) so it makes sense to stay open to both avenues and learning. Certainly we know at least that there is difference in behavior, levels of violence, health outcomes between societies (cross-cultural studies ) with different gender ideologies such as between the Shavante and Piaroa (need to check spelling!), two neighboring communities with very different gender ideologies and health, violence, behavior outcomes, with the Piaroa much more peaceful. So lots to learn!

I champion the tender male heart - I believe the male heart is extremely sensitive and is wounded early by cultural expectations and so we are dealing with the armored male heart. I actually believe the female heart is tougher that the male heart and actually little boys who fall in love early with little girls who don’t understand or feel that love are wounded for life from that early love.
