In my humble view, Love as an Archetypal Energy is a state of being and feeling, and a state of doing. As an African American, when the subject of Love is a theme for discussion, I’m often reminded of what Martin Luther King, Jr. said about the connection of love to power and justice. He said: “Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.” In my view, then, in giving expression to these connections at individual and collective levels, we are engaged in building a care first world or what MLK called the “Beloved Community.” Without the acknowledgment and awareness of these connections, we may find that we are only being sentimental and anemic.
