11:06:20 From Stan Pokras to Everyone:

Welcome, Larry. Today is Day 704 of Humanity Rising dealing with a difficult topic: The lives of veterans after the wars…

11:06:29 From Kat Haber to Everyone:

Veterans remind us for the remainder of their lives. As a brownie I hosted WWII. Their brokenness and gratitude for the little bit of attention we could offer them for that day each year day made me grow up to the dangers of division early. Risking their lives and loves early on in their lives…tears.

11:08:14 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

Ladies and gentlemen, please respect the time we breathe together as sacred space. It is not the time for typing or thinking about what you will say next or even about what is to be heard here. Thank you so much.

11:08:56 From Diane Carol Mark to Everyone:

Looking forward to hearing from our colleague Larry 🥰

11:09:11 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

Welcome, Larry. Very happy you’re here to say that to.

11:09:31 From Kim Kerrigan to Everyone:

WELCOME LARRY!  Goodness gracious, we are SO lucky to be with you today!  Thank you for your amazing life long service for ALL of us!

11:09:51 From Katherine Augustine to Everyone:

Thank you for being with us, Larry.

11:10:14 From Kurt Krueger, PeaceMakers Circles/Network to Everyone:

Larry do you know Bill Stucky’s poetry. He live in New England.

11:11:46 From Aida Merriweather to Everyone:

Interested to discover this morning that while I had the intention to breathe together with everyone & actually find that one of my favorite parts, I was almost totally out of sync

11:12:15 From Paul Hillery to Everyone:

I lived in Dutchess Co., and would travel to New Paltz, where my wife studied for her degree in French to teach. Loved the place.

11:17:24 From Stan Pokras to Shannon McArthur, Host and Panelists:

   Apology… I’ll respect your concern.

11:17:50 From Kim Kerrigan to Everyone:

REAL MEN protect, respect, love, and honor Gaia, women, the deep feminine, the deep masculine, and themselves!  Western culture ignores rights of passage of all kinds.  WAR creates traumatized PTSD monsters. THANK GOD you followed your heart and committed to writing about this human atrocity!!!

11:18:11 From Shannon McArthur to Host and Panelists:

Thanks, Stan. I appreciate you so much!

11:18:39 From Stan Pokras to Stephen Waterman, Host and Panelists:

I mentioned you to Larry and he said he will be joining the AfterChat.

11:18:44 From Kat Haber to Everyone:

   So agree.

11:19:05 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

It’s an ancient indoctrinating system for getting humans to kill.

11:19:24 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

The twist that you’re actually saving lives...

11:19:48 From Kurt Krueger, PeaceMakers Circles/Network to Everyone:

VISION QUESTS, Walkabouts, etc. are great rights of passage. Bringing one DEEPER into SOUL… no more war.

11:19:55 From Leo Jacoby to Everyone:

   Faces of the Enemy resources:

Faces of the Enemy: Reflections of the Hostile Imagination by Sam Keen 1986 Examines the psychology of hatred and aggression, by which one's fears and inadequacies are projected onto others, dehumanizing them into enemies and legitimizing violence. Also a documentary film 1987.

11:20:51 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

Lots more conditioning related to ritual and triggering of survival instincts, much like the worship of Mars.

11:21:52 From Aida Merriweather to Everyone:

Thank you for this. This war was a part of my young adulthood. And men I knew died & were fractured & damaged there

11:22:00 From Kurt Krueger, PeaceMakers Circles/Network to Everyone:

   TOTALLY and sadly true.

11:23:16 From Kim Kerrigan to Everyone:

YES!  Religion is a war monger Larry!  THANK YOU for stating this truth!  It's YOUR SACRED HEART that saved your soul, which ensures your leadership is trustworthy and WISE!

11:23:38 From judith to Everyone:

And for many of us whose lives are shaped in-utero and neurodevelopmentally  by the ongoing tragedy of war and who continue to pay the price for generations beyond — from parents’ broken hearts and lives lost, in one war after the other….the consequences continue ….

11:25:13 From Kurt Krueger, PeaceMakers Circles/Network to Everyone:

ZOOM PEACE with The Peace Salute, ::https://youtu.be/iAknrhuvPr0:: whenever you say goodbye.

“Love is omni-inclusive progressively exquisite understanding and compassionately attuned to other than self.”

   ~ Buckminster Fuller ~

11:25:33 From Jane Norton to Everyone:

   very powerful!

11:25:36 From judith to Everyone:

Is this powerful poem, printed somewhere, in a book?

11:25:47 From Charry Stover to Everyone:

   Wonderful poetry.

11:26:15 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

I’m so sorry for the experiences that gave rise to those words. May those who need to hear them be open enough to hear them.

11:26:48 From Hyacinth Oesterlin to Everyone:

POWERFUL, BEAUTIFUL  words, but how sad!

11:27:06 From Kim Kerrigan to Everyone:

Riviting passionate poem, which clearly pins the tail on the donkey - religion!  THOU SHALL NOT KILL.

11:27:11 From Judy Hanmer to Everyone:

Religion is used by powerful people who ignore its real meaning.

11:27:18 From Hyacinth Oesterlin to Everyone:

   The MAI LAI MASSACRE

11:27:30 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

   Nick Turse ::https://www.amazon.com/Kill-Anything-That-Moves-American/dp/1250045061::

11:27:41 From Stephen Waterman to Everyone:

   Stephen. receiving, not sending video

11:27:42 From Hyacinth Oesterlin to Everyone:

   Kill everything that moves

11:28:21 From Richard Page to Everyone:

My brother in law was told to throw a grenade into a Vietnamese hut before entering it to see who was inside

11:28:54 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

Turse used Library of Congress documents to show that My Lai was more the rule than the exception… many massacres

11:29:15 From Leo Jacoby to Everyone:

11:29:31 From Paul Hillery to Everyone:

I'll be 72 in August. I missed out being drafted, but my favorite cousin went off, two terms despite having  single mother.  I wonder if Lawrence Winters ever saw PRIVATE CORDOVA, the comic book I wrote and drew and sent him over there.  It became a widespread favorite, I laminated each page, since he was one of the group  known as The  River Rats. He won the Air Service Award, jumping out of the copter since so many of his platoon was being left behind, but he landed in the mud fro 50 meters above, fought off the VC, got his company out to the copter he made to come around to get them.

11:29:56 From Aida Merriweather to Everyone:

That’s my experience — no one to talk to

11:30:04 From Kim Kerrigan to Everyone:

A great idea at the time! Three vets and a brand new wife!  Amazing scene!  LOVE your original impulse to understand this whirlwind of insanity!

11:31:14 From Kurt Krueger, PeaceMakers Circles/Network to Everyone:

Imagine someone doing this indiscriminant throwing of grenades or shooting a village up, or a school… here in America.

11:33:59 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

Makes me cry. Grateful for those who have loved you.

11:34:18 From Kim Kerrigan to Everyone:

No wonder it took a Holocaust survivor to heal PTSD in Vietnam.  I BEAR WITNESS TO YOUR DEEP EMOTIONS AND WE HONOR EVERY TEAR FLOWING FROM YOUR DEEP HEART.  NO GREATER GIFT.

11:35:26 From Stan Pokras to Everyone:

   With Love...

               =========================

11:37:01 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

Let us not forget the tremendous peril of the combatants against the Americans…. so many died, were tortured, terrible outcomes

11:37:32 From Kim Kerrigan to Everyone:

1987 - it took the US decades to finally acknowledge, name, and treat PTSD.  Agent Orange, etc

11:37:41 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

Disappeared — so many more Vietnamese POWs still unaccounted for than US vets

11:37:59 From Paul Hillery to Everyone:

Everyone should watch THE DEER HUNTER again.

11:39:47 From Paul Hillery to Everyone:

Robert de Niro's character is based on my cousin and several who went through this.

11:41:13 From Leo Jacoby to Everyone:

11:41:27 From Leo Jacoby to Everyone:

"Kill anything that moves" is a phrase used in this gut wrenching documentary about various genocides, including extermination of native peoples in the Americas:

::https://www.hbo.com/exterminate-all-the-brutes:: (Trailer (2:06); The Director's Statement: Raoul Peck shares his intentions (3:48); Making of EATB and personal significance of the series with Ijeoma Oluo and Raoul Peck (6:22); Discussion Guide; Works referenced.)

11:41:27 From Kim Kerrigan to Everyone:

Beautiful deep poem, naming ALL the archetypes. your poems are HEALING for all of us.

11:41:38 From Diane Carol Mark to Everyone:

My cousin's husband died of Agent Orange poisoning and it was horrible. His cancer made him look like her grandfather before he died.

11:42:29 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

   So many human beings wasted

11:42:56 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

A book title about the denial of AO impact “Waiting for an Army to Die”

11:43:04 From Kim Kerrigan to Everyone:

Great comment and wonderful defiance Jim!  Hey, so practical to say "Wait until you come back"  This was YOUR inner wisdom coming thru right in front of your entire family - already poisoned by US propaganda!!!

11:43:32 From Kathleen McTeigue to Everyone:

Paraphrasing Dr. King... Man will put an end to war or war will put an end to man.

11:44:23 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

Vets today believe that AO has multigenerational impact. VA accepts connection only if mother herself was in Vietnam, not the father.  Lots of hypospadias…another problem that can’t be talked about

11:44:28 From Leo Jacoby to Everyone:

11:45:04 From Kim Kerrigan to Everyone:

   LOVE your first line!!!

11:46:10 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

I agree that the “sacrifice of Isaac” is the foundational myth of patriarchy… even your own father will kill you if ordered by a higher authority

11:46:15 From Katherine Augustine to Everyone:

   Wow, powerful

11:46:23 From Kim Kerrigan to Everyone:

YES, a clear analogy between WAR and PHYSICAL MALE ABUSE - from FATHER TO SON!

11:47:01 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

McNamara’s son has written the book “Because our fathers lied” — quite the exploration

11:47:31 From Tricia Fortina   ;  ) to Host and Panelists:

I looked Lawrence Winters up online and he also shows up as Larry Winters.

11:47:33 From Kim Kerrigan to Everyone:

Excellent truth Jim!  Remorse, yet NO sorrow,  Hey, YOU OLD MEN ARE LEADERS AND HEALERS!  YAY!

11:47:58 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

Others have written how the ruling elite must lose all fragments of morality

11:48:10 From Richard Page to Everyone:

Please post the poems or access to them later

11:49:32 From Aida Merriweather to Everyone:

I would access to written copies of those poems as well , if that is at all possible

11:50:00 From Tricia Fortina   ;  ) to Host and Panelists:

Richard, they may be in the two books I just listed...

   ::https://vva.org/tag/larry-winters/::

11:50:00 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

Yes, reading the memoirs of Soviet and US submarine vets, they have so much in common— mislead, convinced they have to do their dirty deeds because the other side does...

11:50:00 From Jim Garrison to Everyone:

We’ll get the poems for everyone.

11:50:12 From Paul Hillery to Everyone:

Listen to this by THE FIRESIGN THEATER - it will explain a lot being discussed.  ::https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmWFrMq3qNY&list=PLwaBALQ-3z54EcFQOYmr_C6G2W2778Mxh&index=8::

11:50:24 From kip adams to Everyone:

I recommend the documentary "From Shock to Awe" depicting combat veterans from Afghanistan and Iraq who to no avail seek treatment for PTSD. At least not until they participate in psychedelic (ayahuasca) ceremonies. I am a Vietnam War protester who pulled a high lottery number. Too many went in place of those of us who got lucky. I now advocate for legislation in my state of PA that will mainstream psilocybin assisted therapy for veterans and by extension all suffering from mental illness. It's the least I can do.

11:50:41 From Richard Page to Everyone:

Once had a viet vet co-worker who said “you weren’t there, you don’t know, so shut the fk up!”

Yes, these old men, leaders and healers, and young men of heart too. SO, very needed....

11:52:11 From maureenedwardson3@gmail.com to Everyone:

"rage against the dying of the light"

11:52:48 From Katherine Augustine to Everyone:

Do you believe behind the rage is broken heartedness/ deep sorrow and agony?

11:53:12 From Aida Merriweather to Everyone:

Absolutely agree with that perspective on suicide. Healing to hear that said aloud

11:53:39 From Kim Kerrigan to Everyone:

Daily pondering death necessitates navigating the deepest, darkest emotions.  Great book:  "Healing thru the Deep Emotions (author is Holocaust survivor)

11:53:41 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

I think the rage is partly over the scream of the soul defiled

11:54:03 From Leo Jacoby to Everyone:

   ::https://www.facebook.com/intersectionsinternational/::

11:55:45 From Kim Kerrigan to Everyone:

"War is a Racket" by Smedley Butler. Larry, your focus on relationship with civilians & soldiers is BRILLIANT!  Now the wars are everywhere in our midst.

11:56:31 From Carol Flake Chapman to Everyone:

Larry, you have gone beyond the threshold, as they say in mythic tradition, and come back with a gift. The gift of healing. The wounded healer is the most gifted healer.

11:56:47 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

   Out - raged

11:58:31 From Paul Hillery to Everyone:

Outraged vs Inraged which is n

11:59:09 From Carol Flake Chapman to Everyone:

I told my late husband, who was a Green Beret during the Vietnam War, that we ask our soldiers not merely to endanger their lives, but to endanger their souls.

11:59:19 From Katherine Augustine to Everyone:

Thank you … oh gee, yes re: insurance…

12:00:40 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

We monetize the “consumption” of healthcare;  our society is dying of consumption

12:01:49 From Charry Stover to Everyone:

Can they throw out the meds?

12:02:29 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

I’ve wondered why so many vets have been diagnosed with sleep apnea.

12:03:17 From Leo Jacoby to Everyone:

::https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/58950701:: (Because Our Fathers Lied: A Memoir of Truth and Family, from Vietnam to Today by Craig McNamara 2022. This unforgettable father and son story confronts the legacy of the Vietnam War across two generations.)

12:03:28 From Kim Kerrigan to Everyone:

When we kill others, is there forgiveness?  Watch out for Big Pharma! Psych meds are traps. YES we are dying of consumption, ignorance of war, and swimming in dark emotions.  Cancer causing agents everywhere!  NO HEALING FROM US MEDICINE AND LETHAL DANGERS FROM BIG PHARMA.  Is this a "war at home?"

12:04:38 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

One corporation Phillips produces most of the CPAP machines in the world.  They recalled the ones in the US (likely due to fear of litigation) but not elsewhere.

12:05:09 From judith to Everyone:

Agony to have to leave this, from close by, Woodstock, NY — as always, thanks and blessings

12:05:39 From Stan Pokras to Everyone:

What is the percent of people over 50 who are on CPAP machines?

12:05:42 From Kurt Krueger, PeaceMakers Circles/Network to Everyone:

They don’t cut the aid to BIG Pharm/Farm, or Oil…

12:06:43 From Kim Kerrigan to Everyone:

This is why I TAKE CARE of my veteran friends with exceptional care.  Psychedelic treatments are the leading edge of true healing of PTSD! (Oregon Health Sciences)

12:07:58 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

Ongoing callous disregard for the well-being of the human beings forced into the role of killing… current readiness is the goal, later… that’s a different agency

12:08:23 From Kurt Krueger, PeaceMakers Circles/Network to Everyone:

Its a deadly video game for the operators

12:08:25 From Kim Kerrigan to Everyone:

More sophisticated weapons = increasingly deeper split in our human psyche!

12:10:16 From Kat Haber to Everyone:

   So alone.

12:10:51 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

I say that while some are at the point of the spear, we all have our hands on the shaft… complicity leaking through to our school shooters.. why are AR 15’s acceptable in war?

12:11:07 From Aida Merriweather to Everyone:

There’s a lot to hold in love & compassion in ghosts that are being raised here.  I Hope we ça do some breathing at the end

12:11:13 From Kim Kerrigan to Everyone:

PASSIONATE POEM!  WHO?  WHO?  WHO? is responsible for war?  Always the RICH BASTARDS! First, and ALL OF US second.

12:12:04 From Kurt Krueger, PeaceMakers Circles/Network to Everyone:

Take 8 minutes of your life to experience a powerful expression on LOVE by a Prison inmate. ::http://www.filmsforaction.org/watch/human::

Then check out Forgiving the Unforgivable is also the first of The Four Sacred Gifts, a great book by an indigenous elder friend, Anita Sanchez.

When we “work it”… Start loving yourself more and practice this PeaceMaker Meditation that will greatly help: . ::https://youtu.be/vv1VxDv80wo::.  Peace IN Everything, Everything WITH Peace will reverberate throughout your day… making it the focus and bringing more peace to you and ‘others.’

12:13:30 From Aida Merriweather to Everyone:

Empathic listening, so beautifully modeled here

12:15:13 From Kim Kerrigan to Everyone:

Deep heart listening attends to ALL levels of being:  Heart, mind, body, soul, and spirit.  YES!  Paying attention is our best and brightest potent currency of healing! Yes!  Plus plant medicine!

12:17:18 From Paul Hillery to Everyone:

Private Armies  but $$$ for the country (Russia or the US). This goes back for centuries part of the WWII past of the American Volunteer Force in China long before our war began with Japan.

12:18:22 From Susan Iancanelli to Everyone:

Active listening - in these situations take courage. It is actually “witnessing” - SHARING the real burden and pain and awareness of this terrible experience.

12:19:37 From Stan Pokras to Everyone:

Dave… may I copy your message in the Q&A here since the Q&A IS not saved anywhere?

12:20:25 From Kim Kerrigan to Everyone:

WISE learning! from your deep dive into the long term conversations among civilians and military.  Great idea to keep politics OUT.  YOU created a SACRED alchemical container for healing!  Thank you Larry.🌹

12:21:15 From Stan Pokras to Everyone:

From the Q&A… Dave       12:11 PM

I use a CPAP, it has definitely improved my sleeping and overall health. Also, I meditate and practice healthy breathing practices. All of this promoted and taught by my insurance firm. So, it is not some kind of black and white matter. I'd hope to not think that some people will be encouraged to throw out their CPAPs and discount what their doctors recommend simply because of this conversation. Their is so much more to any big topic as being discussed here.

   Dave       12:17 PM

Yes, sincere listening is vital. How do you help others to listen better?

   Dave       12:20 PM

   Yes

12:21:47 From Kathleen McTeigue to Everyone:

It seems an important issue in all of this is "what makes a real man?" How can men discover this for themselves and then share it with young men.

12:22:18 From Stan Pokras to Everyone:

   Thank you, Dave.

12:22:20 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

Thank you, Stan, for your consideration for Dave’s privacy and, Dave, thank you for sharing your experience with CPAP.

12:23:33 From Amy Blumenshine to Everyone:

From my feminist boomer observation, it’s more common for men to reject the label/binary than to feel they can change the stereotype of maleness — which I argue is “soldier-ready” programmed

12:24:05 From Stan Pokras to Everyone:

   With Love...
