She is descended from Quadaquina the brother of the Massasoit, great sachem of the Pokanoket. She is also descended from Stephen Hopkins, Mayflower Pilgrim. Both of these ancestors attended the 3-day harvest celebration in 1621. As Clan Grandmother Barbara teaches the many different ways of her people. Barbara was raised in the dominant culture and discovered at 10 years old that she was of Native descent. She was intrigued and drawn to discovering her ancestors and learning and sharing Native ways.
