   Greenpeace is pushing for a “ratchet” mechanism –

   Stan Thekaekara who works with indigenous peoples in the south of India in a talk to my students yesterday explained the “Community Economy” as practised by the community he works for. 1.The purpose of their economy is meet everyones needs equally 2. They do not hoard or save as the forest gives when they need, there is no place for want 3.you can’t own the forest as much as you can’t own your mother how can you think of buying or selling her.4 you are part of a collective and are not an individual 5.the community economy is a sharing economy, you share with the community that includes nature 7.you have user rights of the forest but not owner rights 8.you have to know when you have had enough you cannot grow for ever

   I think a big problem in regards to the Amazon and other problems, is that the Economic Value of a forest (or any other carbon-stabilizing life) is not included in the country's market system.  But since these forests have Global Climate Value, this value has to be somehow included as a market value.
