11:16:47 From Kurt Krueger, PeaceMakers Circles/Network to Everyone:

Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Kimmerer’s journey that is every bit as mythic as it is scientific, as sacred as it is historical. the awakening of ecological consciousness requires the acknowledgment and celebration of our reciprocal relationship with the rest of the living world.

"Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect." ~Chief Seattle

11:17:05 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

   Well said, Kurt.

11:18:00 From Katherine Augustine to Everyone:

IMHO, our world view or at least our US view of Development being a priority (vs. regeneration of older places and supporting ecosystems as first priority) is an old paradigm - time for innovation to support a new view and new ways on this!

11:18:50 From Roberto SCIFFO to Everyone:

what are the identified ecosystem functions of the lake?

11:23:58 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

Good question, Diana. There’s your answer.

11:24:09 From Roberto SCIFFO to Everyone:

I imagine there are also historical, spiritual, esthetic, economic, and other factors that can bring value to the lake. Perhaps also looking at NBS (nature based solutions) would be important in the surrounding area.

11:25:01 From diana Winhill to Everyone:

Compared to the Dead Sea, in salinity?

11:25:40 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

Dead Sea is at about 30%

11:25:47 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

11:29:16 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

Is there a civic movement (yet) to replace lawns?

11:30:30 From Roberto SCIFFO to Everyone:

Brad Lancaster could also offer other great solutions in managing water: 2 books: Rainwater Harvesting

11:31:51 From Kathryn Alexander, MA to Everyone:

I’m wondering if soil is a part of their plan to keep water? Nature uses soil to hold water so that there is water to go to the lake.

11:32:24 From Roberto SCIFFO to Everyone:

   good point

11:33:22 From Roberto SCIFFO to Everyone:

What is the average rainfall near the lake?

11:35:34 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

   About 1.5” per year (Google)

11:35:48 From Roberto SCIFFO to Everyone:

I’m sure Darren knows that, Kurt.

11:38:10 From Kathryn Alexander, MA to Everyone:

Thanks, Shannon I also got 11 inches to 50 in the mountains. Spokane gets 17 inches.. So We use 53 million gallons - about twice of other cities our size. We get 17 BILLION gallons. SO we get more than we need. I’m wondering how those numbers look in Utah. This is where soil can make a huge difference!

11:39:18 From Katherine Augustine to Everyone:

Oh yes Darren! I agree so much!!

11:39:26 From diana Winhill to Everyone:

11:52:03 From Kathryn Alexander, MA to Everyone:

If you soil under the grass is healthy and will hold water, then you don’t need to add water as much and the roots of the grass will grow long enough to help the soil hold water. More important, IMO than getting rid of the grass and still ignoring the soil see <nowiki>https://soilsmartsoilwise.com</nowiki>

The federal govt funded a large scale project for the Great Lakes starting in 2011 with Pres. Obama. Even President Trump, after threatening to not fund it in 2017, did continue to fund it based on being pressured by his own party members (surprising and phew). <nowiki>https://www.epa.gov/archive/epapages/newsroom_archive/newsreleases/e405626c3e0f5adb852578f800603a96.html</nowiki>

12:05:41 From Carol Sue Engleman to Everyone:

fHow does this relate to the Salton Sea?

12:06:19 From Katherine Augustine to Everyone:

I don’t know the details of why this became such a large scale and funded project, but thought researching into this project and how it was brought to and funded federally might support the Salt Lake.

To achieve any of the previous, we need RANKED CHOICE VOTING for any Greening to happen and make a more democratic country for all the people and planet. It is vital to having America to get to be MORE Representative than the simple 2 Party System. From Fair Vote Canada, they call it, proportional representation: <nowiki>https://www.fairvote.ca/a-look-at-the-evidence/</nowiki>:  Ask “AI” to find out more about it and then ask it to create a convincing description of Ranked Choice Voting for a Senator of _______  in the United States (your country), in about 500 words. Connect with me when you are guided to talk about it.

11:15:39 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

   Robin Wall Kimmerer

11:16:01 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

   https://www.robinwallkimmerer.com/

11:16:23 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

   Braiding Sweetgrass author

11:21:57 From Kurt Krueger, PeaceMakers Circles/Network to Everyone:

See this dynamic plea for all of us. Our mutual Mother Earth’s communication for all her Relations through the Kogi. https://youtu.be/Fzv79qnTL74?si=vPOdauN_6BLSbv64.

11:22:48 From Stan Pokras to Everyone:

   saline lake from en.wikipedia.org

A salt lake or saline lake is a landlocked body of water that has a concentration of salts (typically sodium chloride) and other dissolved minerals ...

Great Salt · ‎Sutton Salt Lake · ‎Sambhar Salt Lake

11:22:58 From diana Winhill to Everyone:

What brought About the Regeneration of water since 2022?

   According to Google

11:25:56 From Roberto SCIFFO to Everyone:

   34.2% (in 2011)

11:26:21 From diana Winhill to Everyone:

The Dead Sea is also having serious problems

11:26:42 From Kurt Krueger, PeaceMakers Circles/Network to Everyone:

QUESTION: Did Robin Wall Kimmerer’s wisdom from her talks or book offer any preventions/solutions?

11:29:16 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

Is there a civic movement (yet) to replace lawns?

11:30:30 From Roberto SCIFFO to Everyone:

perhaps introducing an environmental charge on lawns? And incentives to transition into more hardy plants?

11:30:56 From Kathryn Alexander, MA to Everyone:

   I

11:31:42 From Roberto SCIFFO to Everyone:

Brad Lancaster could also offer other great solutions in managing water: 2 books: Rainwater Harvesting

11:31:51 From Kathryn Alexander, MA to Everyone:

I’m wondering if soil is a part of their plan to keep water? Nature uses soil to hold water so that there is water to go to the lake.

11:32:24 From Roberto SCIFFO to Everyone:

   good point

11:33:22 From Roberto SCIFFO to Everyone:

recycling of water.. biological solutions to waste water handling.. and saltwater farming

11:33:43 From Kathryn Alexander, MA to Everyone:

What is the average rainfall near the lake?

11:35:34 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

   About 1.5” per year (Google)

11:35:48 From Roberto SCIFFO to Everyone:

those only increase if things are kept status quo. One can reduce 'climate change' impacts if one works with the natural cycles...

11:36:42 From Roberto SCIFFO to Everyone:

   ask Nature

11:36:50 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

Water usage by humans — (almost) everybody showers every day!! Runs tap to get hot water… runs tap to get cold water…

11:37:24 From Barbro Esbjörnsdotter to Everyone:

   Darren, a values problem, yes.

11:37:31 From Kurt Krueger, PeaceMakers Circles/Network to Everyone:

Darren, Indigenous wisdom is 1,000’s of years of incredible provable science.

11:37:52 From diana Winhill to Everyone:

   Darren is Wonderful 🤗

11:37:55 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

Jobs!  Jobs! Jobs!  I get so frustrated with this "Jobs" reasoning.

11:39:56 From tarekegn shano to Everyone:

   Great Idea Darren Parry

11:40:08 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

Composting at the level of a city should improve the soil, if we’re doing it… Is composting what would make a real difference?

11:40:11 From Veronika to Everyone:

Daren - beautiful thoughts.  How can we convince the profit hungry population to think your way!!??

11:40:16 From Katherine Augustine to Everyone:

Oh the lawn thing is so Frustrating up until now!!

11:40:50 From diana Winhill to Everyone:

Arizona is having HUGE Ground water Problems with agriculture.  Many of These agricultural companies are not even U.S.

11:41:04 From Kathryn Alexander, MA to Everyone:

Changing ag, so that they are replenishing soil instead of reducing soil fertility. Not a hard fix and one that feeds for future generations. Changing minds, is key.

11:41:26 From Veronika to Everyone:

I live in Denver and stopped watering my lawn and the use pesticides. My lawn is at its very natural state :)

11:42:13 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

   I like your perspective, Ben!

11:42:37 From Kathryn Alexander, MA to Everyone:

Diana, that might be the biggest issue. If ag is not local.

11:44:07 From Roberto SCIFFO to Everyone:

Follow the water...  slow it, spread it, sink it

11:44:27 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

Thank you so much, Tim, for the work you do and for coming to Humanity Rising to tell us about what you know and do.

11:44:34 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

   Roberto, well said.

11:45:01 From Kathryn Alexander, MA to Everyone:

Ah there is where soil is key only soil can hold water for the length of time that’s needed.

11:45:31 From diana Winhill to Everyone:

   Respect the Water.

11:46:36 From Kathryn Alexander, MA to Everyone:

Yes, Robert, and soil is key to that. It distresses me that oil has not even been mentioned.

11:46:56 From Roberto SCIFFO to Everyone:

   can you expand?

11:47:14 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

Soil and oil… 2 subjects that need to be addressed

11:47:17 From Kurt Krueger, PeaceMakers Circles/Network to Everyone:

The ENTIRE ENVIRONMENT needs the attention. 70% of all causes of degradation are caused in individual homes! Share the book, GREEN ACTIONEERS: Family Action Guide,  The Definitive Guide to “Going Green,” Saving Money, and Saving Our Planet , in English and Spanish, by Dave Finnigan   It’s geared for Emementary and Middle/Junior High School students

11:47:29 From Katherine Augustine to Everyone:

I feel like I know what you are going to say - YES!!!

11:49:02 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

Advertising can be very effective. That’s why it has become what it is.

11:49:27 From Veronika to Everyone:

   Darren:  Another beautiful wisdom.

11:49:50 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

   Lawns should be an embarrassment

11:50:20 From Roberto SCIFFO to Everyone:

use the lawn to grow food!

11:50:47 From Kurt Krueger, PeaceMakers Circles/Network to Everyone:

See the first 10 minutes and you'll have to see more... for all good reasons and your family is your #1 priority.

Uprising Together's gathering with Larry Kopald, President and Co-Founder of The Carbon Underground. which today is considered a global leader in the movement to transform food and fiber agricultural systems to help reverse the carbon arrow and mitigate climate change. July 30, 2023. https://youtu.be/8u9ogiRTR_4?si=wJPbcfGRmbpMgZI3

11:50:53 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

It’s not a lawn if you’re growing food, Robert.

11:51:14 From Veronika to Everyone:

Start with teaching the young generation - start with children.

11:51:17 From Roberto SCIFFO to Everyone:

   lost in translation!

11:51:31 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

   ;)

11:51:52 From Stan Pokras to Everyone:

Just to suggest the American way… let’s build a pipeline from the Pacific ocean… (yea, right)

11:52:03 From Kathryn Alexander, MA to Everyone:

If you soil under the grass is healthy and will hold water, then you don’t need to add water as much and the roots of the grass will grow long enough to help the soil hold water. More important, IMO than getting rid of the grass and still ignoring the soil see https://soilsmartsoilwise.com

11:52:30 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

We are someone… is someone taking care of things?

11:52:57 From Diane. to Everyone:

Wonderful Chandler - we ALL have a responsibility to be aware of our actions - and to CARE!!

11:53:00 From Kathryn Alexander, MA to Everyone:

Keep the water you get! Do that first, so you actually know what you are dealing with and recognize your resources.

11:53:30 From Diane. to Everyone:

(Here for 7 mins hahaha) xxx

11:53:33 From Kathryn Alexander, MA to Everyone:

Citizen science - YES - know your own soil!

11:53:45 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

Oh Diane!! Good to see your xxx

11:54:02 From diana Winhill to Everyone:

Correct, Carly!  Involvement , creating interest!!

11:54:43 From Barbro Esbjörnsdotter to Everyone:

From where do the toxines come?

11:54:45 From Diane. to Everyone:

And yes - Citizen Science + citizen Life - we can all work for a better world - together with Mother Nature xxx

11:55:08 From Kathryn Alexander, MA to Everyone:

Understand the biotic pump and its significance for cooling and water rich living.

11:55:26 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

Ben, if you’re working in science or admin, you are being wasted — you should be working with people and outreach… weaving the conversation is one of your superpowers!!

11:55:37 From Diane. to Everyone:

Science DOES involve people!! And it's people who are able to think and change their actions - consciously!!

11:55:52 From Roberto SCIFFO to Everyone:

   yes @Kathryn

11:56:17 From Stan Pokras to Everyone:

   With Love...

12:04:54 From Katherine Augustine to Everyone:

The federal govt funded a large scale project for the Great Lakes starting in 2011 with Pres. Obama. Even President Trump, after threatening to not fund it in 2017, did continue to fund it based on being pressured by his own party members (surprising and phew). https://www.epa.gov/archive/epapages/newsroom_archive/newsreleases/e405626c3e0f5adb852578f800603a96.html

12:07:35 From Stan Pokras to Everyone:

Some of us are gathering in a Zoom meeting for conversation after this session.

I’ll miss you both in the AfterChat, Roberto and Kathryn. See you soon, I hope!

12:13:33 From Kurt Krueger, PeaceMakers Circles/Network to Everyone:

To achieve any of the previous, we need RANKED CHOICE VOTING for any Greening to happen and make a more democratic country for all the people and planet. It is vital to having America to get to be MORE Representative than the simple 2 Party System. From Fair Vote Canada, they call it, proportional representation: https://www.fairvote.ca/a-look-at-the-evidence/:  Ask “AI” to find out more about it and then ask it to create a convincing description of Ranked Choice Voting for a Senator of _______  in the United States (your country), in about 500 words. Connect with me when you are guided to talk about it.

12:15:08 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:

   Super-wicked problem = a MESS!

12:16:09 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:
