   @Ben Levi.  Yes, the reasoning seemed to be that when the so-called “white respondents” in the study thought of the nature of the unconscious as the dark unknown aspects of the self and had fear in this regard, it triggered thoughts about the “fear of death” as the annihilation of consciousness, representing “darkness”, which gets projected out onto the Black race with darker skin—and thus serves as a primary root behind anti-black racism.
