Peter Merry dialogues with Cornelius O’Shaughnessy, a wisdom seeker, on how our perceptions of the world both enable and also complicate our capacity to do anything to change the world.

Wisdom, connection to nature and an awareness of who we are - our own nature, are the foundation of a healthy mind, society and planet. When we lack wisdom and clarity about life, who we are and our place in the universe, we develop a crisis of connection. This leads to a sense of separation from which all of our problems arise. We can focus all kinds of solutions to our current predicament; the climate, the oceans, war, inequity, but if we fail to address the root cause of these problems then we are always going to be living in dysfunction, moments away from one disaster or another. If we are to overcome the problems we face, we must go much deeper than simply look at what we can do differently. We have to look at why we do the things we do - we have to look at the perception we have of ourselves and the world around us. Unless we address the distortions in our thinking, in our minds, that have driven us into a state of disconnection, separation, selfishness and greed then we are merely getting water out our very quickly sinking boat without fixing the holes in it.

So what is wrong with our perception of ourselves and life and how do we fix it? This is a conversation about how we see ourselves, nature, what it means to be human and how we  can return to a more dignified and respectful relationship with each other and life.

Cornelius O’Shaughnessy has studied meditation, Eastern philosophy and enlightenment for over 27 years and has deep insight into life, the mind and people’s problems. He teaches a synergy of wisdom from different traditions alongside the realisations he has had on his journey. Having explored many routes to enlightenment , Cornelius has a unique understanding of the underlaying dynamics of these paths, how they affect the mind, what enlightenment is and how it comes about. He sees our lack of connection to own nature at the root of all the problems both in our lives and in the world. Cornelius uses ancient, intense, immersive and often unconventional methods to teach this wisdom and help people reconnect to themselves, each other, nature and reality.
