HR!Day407 - ENDANGERED -The Sixth Mass Extinction
- --- Humanity Rising Day 407 - Monday February 7, 2022 (GoTo Bottom)
This session begins a five day program on the sixth mass extinction currently underway due to human encroachments into the natural ecosystems of our planet with a focus on how we can all take effective action.
We live in very challenging times—what some are calling the sixth mass extinction. While every age throughout history has been faced with truly significant crises– plagues, world wars, etc.—none has faced the simultaneous and multifaceted challenges present today.
This sixth mass extinction is being propelled by climate change, a “Frankenstein capitalism”, that in the words of John Perkins and other economists is focused on continuous growth at all costs that is outstripping our natural resources (e.g., trees, oceans, top soil) and planet earth’s ability to support life. These challenges are in addition to a global epidemic of adolescent anxiety, depression, self mutilation and suicide, a unprecedented spiritual crisis, a global population approaching 8 billion people, a new form of warfare being played out in cyberspace between democracy and authoritarian nations, and a global pandemic not seen for 100 years. Indeed, we are a species that has lost its way and have only this decade to take meaningful steps to course correct.
