We witnessed the obsequious relationship between former President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin during the four years Trump was in the White House as Trump worked essentially as an asset of the Kremlin. More recently, we saw Alexei Navalny, the main opposition leader to Putin who was poisoned by the Kremlin last Fall, rushed to Germany for treatment, then returned to Russia this February, only to be arrested again and imprisoned. This action sparked major protests across Russia. Putin has been in power for two decades and seems intent on staying in power indefinitely into the future. Who is Putin? We blame him for many things but the deeper reality is that he has been largely shaped by Russia’s reaction to NATO expansion and US policies.
To help us understand Putin and the prospect for better Russian - Western relations, Jim Garrison will dialogue with Vladimir Posner, a veteran journalist widely respected for his insight and fairness both in Russia where he is one of the most popular TV journalists and in the West where he has lived and traveled for many decades.
