In Joseph Chapter 17 and Judges Chapter 11 we see how the Jews under their Elohim Yahweh killed men women & children from citi-states near them, like Gaza West of Jerusalem (the Philistines had cities city states like Gaza, Ekron, Gat, Ascalon, Asdod, and Betel most likely each under their own Elohim).
Joseph says "I conquered those cities & didn't leave any person alive as Yahweh told me."

However, later the genius of the Jewish people (while preserving those stories/records, especially when they were conquered and exiled) adapted them to a more evolved theology that recognized the one true universal God.
