I’ve been working on a process philosophical approach to understanding the neural (brain) contribution to conscious perceiving It turns out that Whitehead’s perception in the mode of causal efficacy (CE), which is basically non-sensory and non-conscious, but fundamentally intimate, is critical for our being consciously presenced in and able to find meaning in the world. I suspect that the ubiquity, the unlimited extent, and the intimacy of CE is contributing to our interaction with the field of consciousness.
