EARTHISM and EARTHISTS:
Many of us have come to the conclusion that how we relate to the natural world and to other people in their relating to the natural world is the most crucial question we face. It is not more important than the question of how we relate with other human beings politically and militarily, but it is currently the area where new thought is most needed and in which we have the best chance of making urgently needed changes.
This importance of the natural world shows up in the names of such movements as eco-civilization, and the Living Earth Movement. I have for some time used the label, “Earthism,” to name the needed orientation of culture and of personal lives.
“Earthism” is very inclusive of what happens on this planet, and it is what happens on this planet that is most important for us.
