A few scientifically proven benefits that meditation also gives: stress/trauma reduction, improved performance in sports and elsewhere, increased mental and physical health.
When I was teaching at Stockholm University in 1984, I gave a special program for the Swedish Prison Wardens and Priests on Using Meditation for Rehabilitation ~ It Changes People Inside so When They Go Outside, They’re Different. ˆThey’re recidivism rate is about 20%, ours 80%. They now use more rehabilitation practices.
LOVE and helpfulness work wonders... When we work it, and we are worth it!

Character flaws like corruption, dementia, or intentional ignorance, etc. All these are some of the character flaws we've come to expect from our elected "leaders".
Certainly there are other more effective forms of human organization that we can be learning to improve?
As our climate weirdnesses continue to challenge our credibility and capacity to respond effectively - certainly the Conferece of Parties has registered their ability to delay and abscond with any timely responses that we might have chosen without the intentional ignorance.

We know the history and how horrible people and our planet HAVE been treated.
We are living NOW, and can create a new reality when we focus upon it. When we keep the focus on what we want, we can get it. The unwanted then gets to wither up and turn into compost for growing more Love and Helpfulness.
Where our attention goes, energy flows.
When we want virtues and values to be expressed by others, how do people learn these? DO our schools educate for quality character? Does our society have a 200 year old Education, Medical, Economic and Prison system creating good for all? What can replace it? Why don’t we focus on creating Peace IN Everything, Everything WITH Peace. What happens when we realize that war is never the answer.
Research shows that when the least of us is uplifted/educated/healed, it VASTLY improves all others.
The Stoics had an expression: Acta non verba. Deeds not words. focus solely on what does matter, where we can have impact, what our unique talents and resources suit us for.

I heard of someone else at the time also sited a UFO in the area in Lake Oswego, OR It was actually in the lake when the water was down (they drain the lake every other year. I am now reading a fiction book by a friend that takes place in my neighborhood in LO about the Roswell coverup.
