I have never paid attention to Coretta Scott King until Shadia began this week. I heard her say that CSK was a successful woman in her own right before her relationship with MLK. I’ve been blind all these 55 yrs since his death.
I am so sorry to have missed out on her amazing contribution & I thank you for opening my eyes.

I remember the buzz in the Denver Capitol the day Mrs. King visited the senate as I was interning with Senator Polly Baca. Her elegance, grace and reverence were stunning. She carried the weight of history with each word she uttered strength, uplifting energy, and the bright hope of freedom for even then the many African Americans who call Denver home.
