Good afternoon everyone. Thank you so much Ciara for your courage and bravery in living a full life as you deal with Kidney disease.
11:14:19 From Stanley Pokras Pokras to Everyone:
I don't often refer to previous AfterChat sessions. But, yesterday's AfterChat was so very thoughtful that I want to offer you a shortcut it. The people were responding to Jim's interview with Rob Hopkins ::https://othernetworks.org/HR!Day373::
11:14:48 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:
Thank you, Stan!! Looking forward to it!
11:16:37 From Antonia Gentile to Everyone:
Of all the poems I read to myself today, it is this one being read by Ciara. What an extraordinary synchronicity.
11:16:38 From Stanley Pokras Pokras to Everyone:

11:16:45 From Jane M to Everyone:
Lovely poem Ciara.
11:21:21 From Richard Page to Everyone:
Fr. O’Donahue poem source, please. He was a delight to us all. Once after recording his presentation, we celebrated life as he clinked my beer mug with his and said: “Bless ye!”
11:21:51 From Sarita Patel to Everyone:
What was the poem Ciara read? I missed it. 🙏🏼
11:23:12 From Richard Page to Everyone:
SP, it ended: “…and waste my heart no longer on fear”
11:24:24 From Antonia Gentile to Everyone:
It was "Beginnings" from To Bless the Space Between Us.
11:26:56 From Jane M to Everyone:
Sadly, there is also immense pressure on those who are desparately trying to provide the best care within the current medical model. Compassion for them all.
11:27:43 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:
Laying our problems at the feet of the medical system makes them responsible for our conditions. I believe we need to share our experience with other human beings with similar conditions who live with or close to us. Many heads are better than one ruled by a system that focuses on illness. We need peer groups in our neighbourhoods, imho, with medical people included but not “in power”.
11:29:59 From Jane M to Everyone:
Soo true Shannon. Everyone has a story thus we also need to advocate for ourselves and each other.
11:30:05 From Kathryn Alexander, MA (joined via macro.io-) to Everyone:
I saw the medical system as a resource. I was able to get unusual blood tests through my Oncologist. I was able to ‘hear’ from their perspective and integrate that in my choices (not often, as it happens). There is nowhere else to get blood work done AND interpreted .
11:33:15 From Jane M to Everyone:
Who supports the patients immense fear around any illness other than those solely in the medical field? It is family, friends and those who are dealing with the same issues.
11:37:07 From Richard Page to Everyone:
From the intro to Fr. O’Donohue’s “Beginnings”: …life itself is the primal sacrament, the visible testimony to invisible grace.
11:37:59 From Mike Troutman to Everyone:
We need to feel cared for by our care providers.
11:38:01 From Chiara Hayganush Megighian to Everyone:
@richard beautiful 🙏🏻
11:39:24 From Mike Troutman to Everyone:
Relationships are part of healing
11:41:19 From Roz Bound to Everyone:
Blue Ocean Strategy - W Chan Kim
11:41:43 From Jane Norton to Everyone:
These simple health practices (breath, meditation, movement, diet. mindset, connection, forgiveness) that people can do for themselves are missing from the US medical system as well. There has been zero focus on strengthening one's immune system for COVID!
11:42:43 From Stanley Pokras Pokras to Everyone:
Having had a surgeries for hernias at age 5, 7 and 9, I grew up believing that the medical system is to be trusted. This has given me confidence that I will be "cured" when that's necessary. Now at 75 I understand that my early experiences gave me a somewhat false sense of security. The idea of learning how to care for my body myself is very much part of my current consciousness. I thank the doctors and the medical system for being there for those who need it. But it's also important for young people to learn that the orthodox system is not infallible.
11:43:28 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:
Stepping back from the problem will help us see that the System will not help us find the solutions we need - those solutions are within our own power… our breath, our mindset…. We find them between us, in our relationships.
11:48:34 From Hilde Paz to Everyone:
For me it's called a one minute M&M from Bhante Rahula - Lion of Wisdom meditation Centre. A one minute meditation by stopping and taking a full deep breath, then bringing your attention to the body.
11:52:21 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:
There are some Diabetes Peer Support Groups - we need kidney support groups in our communities, too.
11:54:02 From Jane M to Everyone:
Need to remember the psychological impact of the chronic illness and the stages of grief that comes with such an illness.
11:56:54 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:
We enjoy our online communities… Thank you for being part of mine!
11:59:01 From Jane Norton to Everyone:
Yes, Ciara! People who have been through health challenges have much wisdom to share!
12:00:43 From Anahata Pomeroy to Host and Panelists:
Smiles. Yes, loving these moments. This book has been share on Humanity Rising before. The book is one to read and reread.
12:01:52 From Jane M to Everyone:
We are all part of this journey.
12:01:56 From Stanley Pokras to Host and Panelists:
One of the wonderful aspects of this very presentation... the panelists and those of us watching in the chat should take heart that this will be available for people to find among a vast array of other resources on YouTube. My work is to catalog resources and I ask people who know of useful information to add the references to ::https://othernetworks.org::

12:02:56 From Kristen Cain to Everyone:
What was book she just read from?
12:03:46 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:
What page of Braiding Sweetgrass was the quote from? I love the thought of Robin writing it, Ciara offering Spirit the opportunity to be part of today’s conversation and being influenced to break open the book at just that place… we must learn to fly! Or bound highly together over the boundaries between us…
12:03:56 From Jane Norton to Everyone:
Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer
12:07:11 From Leo Jacoby to Host and Panelists:

12:07:13 From Jane M to Everyone:
Total surrender....be here now with gratitude and love for self.....for all.
12:08:55 From Elena Andrade to Host and Panelists:
Kidney Beam?
12:09:05 From Leo Jacoby to Everyone:
We all have kidneys, with quite different awareness of this important organ.
My condition: (mild compared to others) PKD, genetic -- both my children have this condition My latest lab reading for eGFRnonAfA is 13.3% (I'm on a transplant waiting list (4-5 years); and getting closer to a decision (when about 7%) for dialysis or palliative care at age 72.
Lived with this knowledge about seven years, my memento mori.
12:09:25 From Elena Andrade to Everyone:
is it kidney beam or being?
12:09:29 From Leo Jacoby to Everyone:
How I discovered my condition: church sponsored-blood pressure test-->> general practioner-->>nephrologists (Also, belly button popped out because of the increased size of the kidneys with cysts)
I value BOTH medical specialists AND responsibility for self care: diet, exercise, breathing, and emotional life--all aspects of wholistic health.
Quantitative and qualitative narratives.
Embodying the information from an early stage and gradually is valuable; my children learned their diagnosis decades before I did.
12:09:34 From Charry Stover to Everyone:
So wait a minute -- what specifically did you do to help your kidney disease that went above and beyond the standard medical model? I don't feel like this was ever clearly laid out, and it would be very interesting. I would also be interested in the entirety of Clara's story from the beginning to the end.
12:10:12 From Paul Hillery to Everyone:
My kids inherited a house from mother. The tenant on the 2nd floor had kidney disease, was an alcoholic, didn’t bother to make it to the bathroom at night and just urinated against the wall next to the bed. The floor wound up collapsing. There are other things about kidney disease people don’t think about. I start my morning with warm water and lemon juice to flush out my kidneys instead of coffee to speed the body into reabsorbing the toxins.
12:10:31 From Leo Jacoby to Everyone:
Valuable videos at: ::https://www.beamfeelgood.com/on-demand/kidney%20disease::
12:10:37 From Sharlene Greenwood to Everyone:

Any thoughts on Chinese regard and care for the kidney?
12:18:32 From Paul Hillery to Everyone:
My friend, my wife’s cousin, a medical doctor, does not want the covid vaccine, because he had a mild case already, but thinks the (political, media, etc.) emphasis should be on healthy lifestyle, vitamins, etc., to build the immune system.
12:20:13 From Richard Page to Everyone:
In Chi Gung warmups, we alternately slap kidneys and shoulder tops as we swing the arms
12:20:18 From Antonia Gentile to Everyone:
Very interesting. I'm also fascinated beyond nutrition to the consciousness behind every organ and what (possibly) causes dis-ease.
12:21:11 From justine clement to Everyone:
Wow - this is just what people need to hear. Thank you! Unmanaged BP is key.
12:22:29 From Jane M to Everyone:
Sugar and salt are a problem.
12:24:17 From Shannon McArthur to Everyone:
Thank you Lina!!
12:28:44 From Paul Hillery to Everyone:
Chinese has 5 flavors, balanced meals, an ideology on health. I studied macrobiotics, go back to the regime when my body tell me to. Understanding and balance are the important disciplines. KI had a fall, damaged my knee considerably, but go up and down the stairs, off to the store, out to the playground with the visiting grandkids. I’ll get back to long walks and bike rides later when I recover.
12:30:04 From Diane Sue to Everyone:
Lovely presentation! Thank you all!
