I was born in 1971, the year India and Pakistan were in war over Eastern Pakistan, now Bangladesh. My mother, Akbari Begum, started showing signs of schizophrenia by the time war ended. When I was 5, she completely lost her touch with the present world. She was living in the past. Some of my father's friends suggested him to marry another women. My father refused. we were seven siblings. My father, gradually started training us how to take care of ourselves, our mother and the house. He was doing three jobs, along with taking care of my mother. In five years after war, we were quite settled in terms of keeping the house and ourselves in 'shape:. Then my father started taking my mother to movies, painting exhibitions, théâtre, and classical music concerts. I considered my father the strongest man in the world all those years. My mother never recoverd from schizophrenia but she started making a lot of sense of the world around her.
