I am not sure about that @Amy.. the US is being extra cautious to prevent conflict with Iran.. neither they nor the Iranians want to start a conflict, so I would expect they would assist with the refuelling of the jets, but not participate with their own fighters.

@Marilyn - Part of the dissolution agreement of the USSR was that the West would not move one inch west towards Russia. Since then NATO has pushed into 8 or so of the 11 countries that boarder Russia, and discussed adding Ukraine to the list, Since 2008 Putin has warned NATO at the UN Security Council that if Ukraine enters NATO it would be considered an act of war. Since 2014 the west has interfered with overthrowing the Ukranian government placing Zelenzky as a pro-NATO puppet, and training anti Russian troops in the Ukraine. So to bring in the context, just as the US had the Cuban missile crisis in the 1960's due to potential missiles too close to US territory, so does the Russians have the same issue with missiles in the Ukraine. Yet, NATO went ahead, and with the intent to weaken Russia, has caused a mess with Europe is paying economically for it. So to place Putin in some evil light, really holds no context in what is actually happening.
