Bios
Michael Nagler is Professor emeritus of Classics and Comparative Literature at the University of California, Berkeley and taught in the Peace and Conflict Studies Program that he founded on that campus in the 1970’s. While at Berkeley, he was the Department Chair of Religious Studies. In addition to teaching at Berkeley he speaks frequently for the media and the general public on issues of peace and nonviolence, mostly through the Metta Center for Nonviolence which he co-founded in 1980. Michael has written six books and contributes articles frequently to Tikkun, YES! Magazine, Waging Nonviolence, and other progressive journals. He has consulted for the U.S. Institute of Peace and many organizations and projects dealing with nonviolence and world peace. He has followed a meditation practice for over fifty years.
