REDES community development work include building schools and wells for access to water, implementing community tree nurseries and orchards, workshops on ecovillage design and practices and on food processing and soil improvement, research and international service learning programmes in ecovillages

Ousmane Aly Pame, PhD, is a university professor of literature, former Mayor of the eco-town of Guede Chantier, founding member and first President of Global Ecovillage Network/ Africa and a regional community leader. He designs and coordinates international academic programmes in ecovillages in Senegal. Dr Pame is founder and President of REDES (Network for Ecovillage Emergence and Development in the Sahel, http://www.redes-ecovillages.org). With government agencies, local governments, international NGOs and Universities), REDES is now implementing a transborder ecovillage hub in Senegal River Valley, consisting of 100 villages, all located on each side of the border between Senegal and Mauritania.
