HR!Day386 - Cool City Challenge: Empowering Cities to Become Carbon Neutral by 2030
- --- Humanity Rising Day 386 - Friday January 7, 2022 (GoTo Bottom)
Why put our hope in cities and citizens? Cities generate 70% of the planet’s carbon emissions. We generate 70% of a city's carbon footprint through our energy, transportation and consumption choices. What would it look like to empower the world's cities and citizens to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 without offsets? Well, we’re about to find out. A climate moonshot strategy was launched the fall of 2021 in California. The Cool City Challenge awarded multi-sector teams in three cities — Los Angeles, Irvine and Petaluma — $1 million plus consulting support to execute their climate moonshot plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 without carbon offsets.
You’re invited to learn how the seemingly impossible can become possible, bring this to your city, and deepen your hope for the future.
David Gershon is the CEO of Empowerment Institute, author of “Social Change 2.0: A Blueprint For Reinventing Our World,” and creator of the Cool City Challenge. The Challenge builds on David’s decades of innovative behavior and social change work.
