The dominance of flat rectangular media often reflects flat rectangular thinking. Immersive surround media promises to immerse people in 360-degree content, gently flooding them with impressions and feelings that go deep, blurring the line between the self and the vast web of life and other worlds. Reflections on immersive media and how they can help change outdated world views will be broadcast live from the world's oldest planetarium in Jena, Germany, and illustrated with examples from the program of the Jena FullDome Festival. http://www.fulldome-festival.de
Micky Remann is a German-born media artist and explorer of immersion, both literally and symbolically. Influenced by musical dialogues with orca whales, he created the Liquid Sound® sonic experience for audiences to enjoy a "concert hall filled with water". He is co-director of the Jena FullDome Festival and has taught immersive media at the Bauhaus-Universitaet Weimar for 20 years.
