From: Kala Perkins (11:18 AM) 🙏💙

From: Diane Skidmore (11:19 AM) The small screen is fine xxx

From: Shannon McArthur (11:20 AM) going forward… ; From: MALINI Rajendran (11:26 AM) that is why it is parAM)ount that humanity comes together to save the destruction of the AM)azon,.

From: Diane Skidmore (11:27 AM) @Malini Indeed

From: MALINI Rajendran (11:27 AM) otherwise we can expect a more powerful and devastating pandemic

From: Diane Skidmore (11:28 AM) yes The window is NOW

From: MALINI Rajendran (11:31 AM) w have to move towards de-urbanising. technology, has shown we don't need to be physically in one place to get the job done. our meeting via zoom being a classic exAM)ple.

From: David Stoney (11:31 AM) Dealing with the climate crisis in a humane way is our most important task. The human race has for the first time achieved the technological wherewith-all to break free of the climate whipsaw of the earth’s cycling climate. We survived it for the 3 million years of our evolutionary birthing process that brought us to this interglacial phase. That was God’s plan for our species. Now we must avoid squandering the one chance we have to create a thermostable planet. We need enough CO2 in the atmosphere to keep the world From: going into another ice age, but far too much is currently being added and we risk runaway global warming and sea level rise. Our God-given mission as co-creators is to prevent the worst effects of global warming. We will all have to reassess how we live and work, particularly those of us who live in so-called Developed countries. The alternative is possibly a catastrophe for everyone that would be just as bad as another ice age. - David Stoney

From: MALINI Rajendran (11:32 AM) we need to decentralise manufacturing like the Japanese did post world war. that way economies will be more sustainable and equitable.

From: Diane Skidmore (11:33 AM) Glad 'economic growth' was written but not mentioned by Chadia. De-growth is important! Again @Malini - Indeed Everything is connected!!!

From: Kathryn Alexander, MA (11:34 AM) Thriving NOT growth

From: Diane Skidmore (11:35 AM) Brilliant @Kathryn - Health above profit!

From: MALINI Rajendran (11:35 AM) Thank you so much for saying this. high time different organisations started speaking the sAM)e languange and building coherence.

From: Diane Skidmore (11:35 AM) Before (better than above) : From: Jen Forti (11:38 AM) Margaret Klein SalAM)on, in her book Facing The Climate Emergency, talks about how we need to enter into a WWII emergency response mode

From: MALINI Rajendran (11:39 AM) Public health and disaster management is unfortunately not made part of basic education. First aid and health care is not taught as mandatory part of school and college curriculum.

From: Shannon McArthur (11:39 AM) @Malini - “should” be

From: Kathryn Alexander, MA (11:39 AM) @Jenn - yes, but the warm water feels soon good it is hard to recognize the potential for boiling…

From: MALINI Rajendran (11:40 AM) What is most important is the sharing of honest and true information From: the epicentre of a pandemic which was not done for covid=19

From: Diane Skidmore (11:41 AM) 'Normal' education is about how to get a job. We need education on how to be a person - healthy and happy! Thriving as part of a healthy and happy whole!

From: Shannon McArthur (11:41 AM) @Diane YES

From: Kathryn Alexander, MA (11:41 AM) honesty is the best policy, but shAM)e and fear make it hard. Rewards for first announcements?

From: Jen Forti (11:41 AM) Yes @Kathryn and unfortunately when our own government’s response here in the US has been utterly deplorable and catastrophic it’s hard to see this emergency response happening From: the top.

From: Kathryn Alexander, MA (11:42 AM) @Jenn - right we need a work around

From: MALINI Rajendran (11:42 AM) brilliant Australian approach.

From: Diane Skidmore (11:43 AM) Interesting case. We also need to hold our governments to account over secret deals that they do to make profit - totally unrelated to a healthy planet!!

From: MALINI Rajendran (11:43 AM) I think we can here look at fundAM)ental rights under the Indian constitution. but depends how the cse is fAM)ed.

From: Liliane Mavridara (11:44 AM) @Chadia, thank you!

From: Diane Skidmore (11:44 AM) Lovely Chadi. Thank you - great pic of the world xx

From: Sharon Truax (11:44 AM) Thank you Chadia…..

From: MALINI Rajendran (11:44 AM) thankyou chadia- that was brilliant presentation.

From: Jen Forti (11:44 AM) Thank you Chadia !!

From: David Stoney (11:44 AM) Wonderful presentation, Chadia! - David Stoney

From: Diane Skidmore (11:44 AM)

  • Chadia 0oops apologies xx

From: Mushin Patric Roberts (11:44 AM) Chadia great presentation can we get a copy of your slides?

From: Me (11:47 AM) In the United States, the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund (CELDF) helps communities and groups defend the rights of people and nature.

We are not a typical environmental organization.

We assist communities to develop first-in-the-nation, groundbreaking laws to protect rights – including worker, environmental, and democratic rights, and rights of nature.

CELDF provides free and low cost legal services, grassroots organizing, and education, to communities, states, and countries facing injustice. We help them to assert their rights to fight the harms they face.

https://wikidelphia.org/Community_Environmental_Legal_Defense_Fund_(CELDF From: Jen Forti (11:48 AM) There

From: Jen Forti (11:50 AM) @Stanley, I worked with Community Rights US for a while here in Portland And there’s the Stop Ecocide organization who’s mission is making ecocide illegal. Another org I want to support! https://youtu.be/vZw0HWM9n8I

From: MALINI Rajendran (11:51 AM) in 2007 the IPCC was awarded the Nobel Peace prize and yet we are here in 2020 with the situation going From: bad to worse and the AM)azon being destroyed and From: what cladia showed us a pandemic.

From: Diane Skidmore (11:52 AM) A bit scary that corporations take governments to court for loss of profits alongside individuals standing up for human rights. Please can we have a united world that works for the good of all - happy and healthy plants, creatures, oceans, trees - all life!! Good that property rights come AFTER public health rights!

From: Kathryn Alexander, MA (11:53 AM) Young Repbulicans are MUCH more focused on climate change creating a potential split in the Republican party

From: Diane Skidmore (11:53 AM) Phew!! Good!! (The slide From: Jen Forti (11:53 AM) I hope so because they WILL be around to experience it

From: Kathryn Alexander, MA (11:54 AM) Getting Republicans on board makes action much more likely - in the next administrations…

From: Diane Skidmore (11:55 AM) @Kathryn - because the Democrats are already on board maybe?

From: Jen Forti (11:56 AM) @Kathryn, The Lincoln Project gives me some hope 🤞🏻

From: Kathryn Alexander, MA (11:56 AM) Much more - and yes not enough. competition between them - who is doing more would be nice!

From: Me (11:56 AM) @Jen - Thank you, I AM) adding Community Rights US to othernetworks.org

From: MALINI Rajendran (11:56 AM) emission trading was the worst idea humanity could have come up with. Thankfully carbon trading and cdm has not gone where it was targeted to go.

From: Chadia Wannous (11:56 AM) Thanks all for your kind words. I AM) happy to share the presentation with all through the organisers of the event

From: Kathryn Alexander, MA (11:56 AM) Well done Chadia!

From: Jen Forti (11:57 AM) @Stanley, great!

From: Doreen Tanenbaum (11:57 AM) Great news that these corp are being taken to court

From: MALINI Rajendran (11:57 AM) You've left out Cairn and Shell .

From: Jen Forti (11:57 AM) @Stanley, http://communityrights.us/

From: Shannon McArthur (11:57 AM) @Malini, glad you included them

From: Kathryn Alexander, MA (11:58 AM) There is a strong movement targeting insurance and investment to stop their support and contributions to those industries that contribute to climate change. Tends agreements?

From: MALINI Rajendran (11:58 AM) well Polluter pays principle works to some extent But there are people at the base of every thing. people who are easy to corrupt..

From: Kathryn Alexander, MA (11:58 AM) Tender agreements? Wild law!!1

From: Carlos Prosser (11:59 AM) We are workinkg in environmental education and climate change and we are considering the big impact of negative emotions in the lack of real actions to prevent it. In October 29 we Will present here our statements

From: Liliane Mavridara (11:59 AM) That's a powerful statement

From: Liliane Mavridara (11:59 AM) From: C. Stone

From: MALINI Rajendran (12:00 PM Tenders is where all the manipulation is done,

From: Kathryn Alexander, MA (12:00 PM YAY Carlos - It will be great to hear From: and see you!

From: MALINI Rajendran (12:00 PM That's because EIA studies are manipulated From: a homocentric point of view.

From: Shannon McArthur (12:01 PM Narayan YES, please!

From: MALINI Rajendran (12:01 PM Bangladesh problem is not drought but floods.

From: Diane Skidmore (12:01 PM He began by fighting a town council and helping residents to win the case - they were copping loads of trees! chopping

From: Me (12:04 PM About the Crisis of DEMOCRACY and the Environment:
The book that reveals the most important environmental and legal blockages to democracy and the rights of communities and nature is Ben G. Price's "How Wealth Rules the World"

From: MALINI Rajendran (12:05 PM Law should not be just the bridge it needs to be the basis of ensuring human rights, planet rights, waters rights. the world water law is probably the first step being taken.

From: Diane Skidmore (12:05 PM Citizens Assemblies are a good model for a way forward.

From: Me (12:06 PM How Wealth Rules the World https://wikidelphia.org/How_Wealth_Rules_the_World_%E2%80%93_Ben_G._Price

From: Shannon McArthur (12:08 PM From: head to heart… bridge!

From: Diane Skidmore (12:08 PM @Narayan - sounds as if - if you and similar people to you are working for a better way - we might just make it!! Thank you

From: Me (12:08 PM The law has been written by wealth land holders and deals with Property, not health.

From: Diane Skidmore (12:08 PM Lawyers with Hearts!!!

From: Shannon McArthur (12:08 PM ty, Narayan

From: Shannon McArthur (12:10 PM where?

From: Kathryn Alexander, MA (12:10 PM Ah property rights - they trump the value of human life currently, so what else has greater value? Legislated greed…

From: Diane Skidmore (12:11 PM Yes, property rights cause conflict Of course hahaha

From: Kathryn Alexander, MA (12:12 PM They prevent solutions

From: Diane Skidmore (12:12 PM Time for Change - I think that's part of the light - the 'powers that be' are seeing that too!! From: Sharon Truax (12:17 PM What a gift these 103 days have been to "stand still and see the......" with today's presentation more than a just a "glimmer" of a world that works for all.

From: Kathryn Alexander, MA (12:17 PM What is the role of lawyers in writing law? Is there any intention to writing laws that would support a thriving planet?
