uNHIdden is a mental health and wellbeing charity, formed in the UK in summer 2023, to encourage better support for people who have had Exceptional Experiences and to campaign for a kinder, better disclosure. It is medically-led, with a Medical Advisory Board made up of doctors and clinical psychologists at the heart of what we do. If disclosure is a process, then uNHIdden’s mission is to help as many people as possible get to the other side in as positive a way as possible. On 17th April 2024 we published a White Paper with five recommendations for the UK Government. This includes the need for better guidance for health and social care professionals to make it easier for them to consult patients presenting with Exceptional Experiences in a non-judgmental and evidence-based manner. It also makes the case for Government providing credible information to the public on the UAP topic, and the importance of developing a single, joined-up plan for UAP disclosure in a way that builds trust. We would be pleased to share our view on the importance of a people-first disclosure, with more research and action around how to predict who will be most affected by the news that we are not alone and then how to provide care and support.

John Priestland is a physicist and management consultant, and a former fast-stream civil servant at the Cabinet Office. He set up uNHIdden after seeing how impact of stigma around talking about depression in the construction sector could be alleviated through simple strategies for encouraging better conversations. He has worked extensively in the energy and engineering sectors, and supports a number of technology businesses. He is based in the United Kingdom, working in London and living near Winchester.
