Elle Travis discovered that after writing and publishing nature stories for children, she had a deep desire to bring the stories to life and start a grass-roots movement (ECO-lution) that could ignite globally as children everywhere connect with nature. Growing gardens is much more than the fruits and vegetables from the plants. Elle believes that by observing nature we will be better prepared to address our many burning-platform issues. We find ourselves at a 'choice point' never before experienced. Alarming statistics demonstrate why now is the time to take action. As we shift from the Age of Pisces into the Age of Aquarius, old systems and structures built around top-down control are dissolving into new ways of living in a cooperative and collaborative environment. Our children are our hope for the future, and we must show them we care by listening to them and demonstrating with our actions how to navigate our new world, balancing technological advancements with our natural world.

Doreen Tanenbaum discovered on her path that at my root she’s not a teacher, problem solver, shaman, adapter, system thinker and cleaner, although those have been among the ways she has embodied herself. Rather, she’s a human who records the history of the natural environment and indigenous ways for wilding the landscapes of children’s minds and heart in becoming “Caregivers of Mother Earth” a good friend and treasuring the gifts of creative imagining and listening from within.

At Caregivers of Mother Earth, we lead by example as we collaborate with higher educational institutions to create a digital library of nature-based activities and experiences for Pre-school through fifth grade. The curriculum is housed under an organic umbrella focused on the cosmos featuring biomimicry, biology, ecosystems, the season cycles, communing with nature, the web of life, indigenous ways, mindfulness, regeneration technics, gardening, and good nutrition. Eventually, the curriculum will grow to cover middle school through high school.

Presenters:

Elle Travis, Founder and Chief Pollinator, Caregivers of Mother Earth (COME). Elle Travis has a passion for teaching children about nature and protecting the environment. After growing up in Charlotte and enjoying a long career in the Raleigh, NC area, Elle moved to Hendersonville, a small mountain town in NC in 2012. She was drawn to alternative healing modalities and became immersed in Plant Spirit Medicine and energy healing. In 2020, something changed, and she embarked on what has become her second life's work, 'connecting children with nature.' Since then, she has written and published a nature-based book series with four seasonal books containing 13 unique stories that take you through a year in the garden and much more. A playful fairy narrates Elle's stories. A teen adventure novel, Pathfinders' Dawn of Understanding launched in the spring of 2023 and takes place in the future. She develops the characters from her nature stories in a sci-fi adventure of wonderment. In both series she draws inspiration from Indigenous Elders and other knowledgeable 'pathfinders' who have shared ancient teachings and customs with her.

Doreen Tanenbaum, Curriculum Designer and Chief Fairy Godmother, Caregivers of Mother Earth (COME). Doreen grew up a nomad as a child due to her father being in the military; this gave her the appreciation for different religious/spiritual worldviews and traditions within cultures. Doreen has a deep desire to ignite a love of nature in children using her magical ability to communicate with all ages. She has degrees in Cultural Anthropology, Early Childhood and Elementary Teaching. She completed a Masters in Special Education. Her smile disarms and gives an opening to understanding opposing views that is so needed in our world. She is a lifelong student of philosophical and metaphysical methods that expand human thought into various realms where the sacred and scientific are intersect. It’s her vision and listening skills that allow her to walk as one with nature and all creation. She holds a great wealth of ancient wisdom from indigenous cultures. She is an educator and master at igniting a passion within those she meets. Doreen joined the Board for Caregivers of Mother Earth in late 2022 where she immediately made significant contributions and continues to lead with courage and an unstoppable joy in living.
