The drama surrounding judicial repression in Israel continues as the Likud party maneuvers to strip the Israeli Supreme Court of its powers and hundreds of thousands of Israelis protest. Conflict between Israel and Palestine festers with killings, riots and turmoil. Since the Arab Spring in 2011, people in the Middle East and North Africa have been using the Internet and social media to organize against oppressive regimes and call for their human rights to be respected. This includes in Palestine. 7amleh —  The Arab Center for the Advancement of Social Media — has been working to protect Palestinians human rights online — their digital rights — since 2013. 7amleh conducts research into how the policies and practices of government authorities and technology companies impact Palestinian digital rights —  from the right to freedom of expression, assembly, and association, to the right to privacy and data protection, among others. Join 7amleh's International Relations Manager Alison Carmel Ramer as she introduces some of the main drivers of digital apartheid and occupation in Palestine as well as some of the ways in which Palestinians are protecting themselves and advocating for their rights.

  • Alison Carmel Ramer is a digital rights activist and writer with more than 10 years of experience working at the intersection of technology and human rights in the Middle East and North Africa.

Co-convener:
