For thousands of years, Chartres has been recognized as a sacred site honored by the Celts, Druids, Christians and mystics of all traditions as a place with a particular feminine quality, specifically the energy of a virgin expecting birth. Each year since 2005, Ubiquity University has convened a pilgrimage to this sacred site for a seven day initiatory process in which we seek to honor the sacred feminine to develop our capacities to become more fully human. It is a very powerful experience. Chartres is the sacred heart of Ubiquity University.

The framework for the pilgrimage are the liberal arts developed originally by Pythagoras, Plato an Aristotle and refined to their highest expression a thousand years ago by the Chartrian Masters. During our pilgrimage there last month (August 12 - 18) we explored the third of the liberal arts — Rhetorica, which is about how to speak and act with love. It is under the aegis of the plant Venus and the Greek goddess Aphrodite, the goddess of sexuality, love and beauty. We contemplated how to regenerate love after the scourge of the pandemic through apology, reconciliation and healing.

We will be joined by a number of pilgrims and faculty who were there to share their experiences and also the commitment that emerged to convene a global day of apology next May 26, 2023.

Co-convener:

  • Jim Garrison, President, Ubiquity University
