Today we will dialogue with Ray McGovern, a former CIA analyst with extensive experience in Russian affairs. He spoke out strongly and publicly against the US invasion of Iraq in 2003 and today he questions the prevailing narrative about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Ray McGovern has had several decades of experience in Russian affairs — three decades as a CIA analyst. His duties included preparing The President’s Daily Brief, which he briefed one-on-one to President Ronald Reagan’s five most senior national security advisers from 1981 to 1985. He speaks fluent Russian.
As Ray watched his former colleagues manufacturing “intelligence” for war on Iraq, he co-founded Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS) to expose that unconscionable deceit in the months before the war. Ray is now persona non grata in mainstream media but continues to provide the kind of “untreated” analysis — on Ukraine for example — for which President Truman originally created the CIA. ( See, for example: ::https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OeeqooNWO48&t=3287s:: )
Ray McGovern leads the Speaking Truth to Power ministry of the ecumenical Church of the Saviour; earlier he was co-director of the Servant Leadership School there. He is an ecumenical Catholic in the tradition of Matthew Fox. Ray is fluent in Russian, German, and Spanish. He and his wife have been married 60 years; they have five children and ten grandchildren.
