This session will provide insights into how local areas around the US will be effected by climate change over the next several decades and what you can do about it if you live there.

Popular news about the climate crisis makes it hard to find room for hope.  Many of us are stuck in denial or despair.  These seemingly opposite positions have one thing in common.  Both say there is no point in action. But there is hope.  We have a pretty clear picture of what our planet will look like in 2050.  The future is going to be rough; there are many challenges ahead.  But we can build resilience and preserve not only our communities, but our values.  Join us to explore our most-likely 2050 future for the continental US.  We’ll identify key challenges, along with important opportunities.  Let’s get ready.

Dr. Emily Schoerning is a science education researcher.  She studied how the language of science is used to divide people, and has developed linguistic tools to heal the gap.  Her outreach work has brought climate science into the hands of tens of thousands of Americans in rural and working-class communities.  She lives with her husband, Rabbi Michael Gilboa, their three children, a baby prairie, and many other plants.
