Around the world men are living significantly less well and not living as long as women. Increasing men’s mental and physical health so that they live as long as women could revolutionize men’s way of being in the world and do much to end patriarchy as we know it.

It is becoming increasingly clear that humanity is facing challenges that impact the lives of men and women everywhere, but no one has a clear understanding of what to do to improve things.  In their book, Deaths of Despair, social scientists Anne Case and Angus Deaton say, "In the past two decades, deaths of despair from suicide, drug overdose, and alcoholism have risen dramatically, and now claim hundreds of thousands of American lives each year--and they're still rising." Their research shows that men are at higher risk than women and these trends are occurring world-wide.

In 2004, Drs. Daniel J. Kruger and Randolph M. Nesse, conducted a study that measured the overall male to female mortality ratio in twenty different countries and found that in each one studied, males lived sicker and died sooner than females. They offered three clear conclusions:

• Over 375,000 lives would be saved in a single year in the U.S. alone if men’s risk of dying was as low as women’s.

• If male mortality rates could be reduced to those of female rates, this would eliminate over one-third of all male deaths below age 50 and improve the lives of males at every age.

•  Achieving this goal would do more good than curing cancer. We now know what works to improve men’s health and wellbeing, but no organized, concerted effort has ever been attempted. Jed Diamond is proposing a Moonshot Mission to bring concerned men and women together to healmankind on behalf of all humanity.
