US and NATO troops and weaponry are now on the ground in Ukraine fighting against the Russians. The Russians have deployed tactical nukes in Belarus to counter US tactical nukes in Belgium, Germany, Holland, Italy and Turkey and an escalating troop and weapon strength throughout eastern Europe. This puts the two superpowers in direct military conflict with the possibility of nuclear weapons escalating day by day. Never before in our lifetimes has the world situation been more dangerous.  During this five day program, we will be exploring what lessons can be learned from previous attempts to get the US and Russia to negotiate their differences, what the current status of the war is, the nature of US imperialism, the pathway to negotiation, and what the peace movement can do to bring about a ceasefire and diplomacy.

This Summit is being co-sponsored with '''[[Code Pink]]''', a feminist grassroots organization working to end U.S. warfare and imperialism, support peace and human rights initiatives, and redirect resources into healthcare, education, green jobs and other life-affirming programs.

* '''[[Mark Gerzon]],''' leadership trainer and mediator, and best-selling author, is a former EWI Distinguished Fellow. He spearheaded EWI's Global Leadership Consortium, which harnesses talent from around the world to address threats to global peace and security. Gerzon is the author of "Leading Through Conflict: How Successful Leaders Transform Differences Into Opportunities," Harvard Business School Press. Using the "mediator's toolbox" described in his book, he coaches leaders in both the private and public sectors on how to bridge the divisions in their companies and communities. Called an "expert in civil discourse" by The New York Times, for the past 20 years Mark has been President of the Mediators Foundation, a non-profit incubator of conflict resolution projects. Mark is co-founder and co-director of the Global Leadership Network, an international organization whose members are leadership trainers from every region of the world. Among the Network's projects are a book on the global dimensions of leadership, and a Global Leaders program being designed in partnership with Outward Bound International. He has also served as a consultant to the United Nations Development Program and its Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery. Since designing and facilitating the first and second United States House of Representatives' Bipartisan Congressional Retreats, he has continued to conduct dialogue trainings for Chiefs of Staff from both parties in the United States House and Senate, and to facilitate "cross-spectrum" dialogues between Left, Center and Right. Both in the private as well as the public sector, his goal is to support leaders who can build bridges across their differences in order to find common ground and solve critical problems.
* '''[[John Marks]]''' is the founder and Managing Director of Confluence International, an Amsterdam-based NGO that specializes in Track II diplomacy and TV production to promote social change. Until 2014, he was President of Search for Common Ground (SFCG), the world’s largest peacebuilding NGO, which he founded in 1982. SFCG was nominated for the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize. John also founded Common Ground Productions (CGP) and has produced or executive-produced TV series in more than 20 countries. He is a Visiting Scholar in Peacebuilding and Social Entrepreneurship at Leiden University in the Netherlands. With his wife, Susan Collin Marks, he is a Skoll Awardee in Social Entrepreneurship, and, additionally, he is an Ashoka Senior Fellow. A best-selling, award-winning author, he graduated from Cornell University and was a Fellow at Harvard&amp;#39;s Institute of Politics and a Visiting Scholar at Harvard Law School. He has an honorary PhD from the UN’s University of Peace in Costa Rica.
