The internet and contemporary mass communication platforms have become disruptive forces ushering in a new era that holds the potential to democratize the writing and rewriting of history. This week we shine a light on some of the African American women who have helped change the world we live in. And, we issue a challenge to America’s future leadership.

As a scholar of Conscious Leadership, he is passionate about bringing more conscious leadership into the world which he does through his coaching and advisory work, film and media projects and Board positions. As CEO of Endangered.global he brings his commitment and experience to impacting climate change and biodiversity loss. He holds an M.S. in Organization Dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania.

* '''Dr. [[Joycelyn Elders]]''', M.D. is an American pediatrician and public health administrator who served as Surgeon General of the United States from 1993 to 1994. A Vice Admiral of the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, she was the second woman, second person of color, and first African American to serve as Surgeon General. She is currently a professor emerita of pediatrics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
* '''Dr. [[Sonnee Weedn]]''' has been in practice since 1980 first as a Marriage and Family Therapist and then as a Psychologist since 1991. She maintains offices in Newport Beach and Novato, CA, where she treats individuals, couples, and families. She has specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of chemical dependency in its many forms since 1985, as well as the treatment of severe PTSD, beginning with VietNam Combat Veterans. She regularly consults to treatment organizations across the United States and has been selected twice as a presenter at the Tibetan Medical Society, by invitation of His Holiness the 14 th Dalai Lama.  In addition, Dr. Weedn is an award-winning author, having written Many Blessings: A Tapestry of Accomplished African American Women, which is a compilation of thirty interviews with amazing African American women, and 8 Ways to Wellbeing for Recovering People, 8 Ways to Sustainable Wellbeing for Teens and Families, 8 Ways to Wellbeing for Resilience and Vitality. She co-wrote two chapters of the seminal textbook, Making Advances: A Comprehensive Guide for Treating Female Sex and Love Addicts, for which she won the Clark Vincent Award of the CA Association of Marriage and Family Therapists for original research contributions to the field. She won a second Clark Vincent Award for her 8 Ways to Wellbeing for Recovering People workbook. She is currently working with Stuart Sender of Balcony Studios to bring a documentary of the life, life’s work and impact of our National Treasure and former U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Joycelyn Elders.
* '''[[Stuart Sender]]''' is a writer filmmaker, showrunner and teacher whose work has been nominated for two Academy Awards for best documentary (Prisoner of Paradise and The Garden) and won Emmy Awards and a Polk  Award for Excellence in Journalism. Most recently, Stuart was Co-Executive Producer of two series for Netflix: Meltdown, Three Mile Island, a four-episode series about the role of whistleblowers in exposing the worst nuclear accident in U.S. history; and the Emmy winning music series  Remastered.   Stuart’s work includes a focus on global climate change. He was a producer for the Showtime climate series Years of Living Dangerously, winner of an Emmy for best non-fiction series. He is Executive Producer of The Garden, an Oscar-nominated documentary that looks at issues of environmental justice at the country’s largest urban garden in South Central Los Angeles. And his film HARMONY, a primetime special for NBC, explores solutions to the global economic and environmental crisis. He also teaches Science, Environment and Technology reporting at the University of Southern California. A career and life highlight was producing and directing the first exclusive interview with Nelson Mandela following his release from prison.
