</blockquote>'''Today we dialogue with [[Ray McGovern]]''' who has had decades of experience in Russian affairs — three of them as a CIA analyst “back in the day” when analysts could report Russia, at least, without fear or favor. His duties included preparing the President’s Daily Brief, which he briefed one-on-one to President Ronald Reagan’s five most senior national security advisers from 1981 to 1985. Ray is fluent in Russian, German, and Spanish.  

As Ray watched his former colleagues manufacturing “intelligence” for war on Iraq, he co-founded Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS) to expose that consequential deceit in the months before the war. Ray is now persona non grata in mainstream media but continues to provide the kind of “untreated” analysis — on Ukraine for example — for which President Truman originally created the CIA. Ray McGovern leads the Speaking Truth to Power ministry of the ecumenical Church of the Saviour; earlier he was co-director of the Servant Leadership School there. He is an ecumenical Catholic in the tradition of Matthew Fox and John XXIII.Well into our 19th year, VIPS keeps trying.  Recently, the key point (the growing danger of a nuclear exchange) emphasized in his May 1 Memo to Biden has now been echoed by CIA Director William Burns.
