A 2012 study led by French scientist Professor Gilles-Eric Séralini showed that low levels of glyphosate caused toxicity in rats, which led to personal and scientific attacks on Prof. Séralini, organized by the agricultural industry. In 2015 the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified glyphosate as ‘probably carcinogenic to humans’. Since then several independent studies have pointed to glyphosate causing damage to multiple organs including our livers and kidneys as well as the gut microbiome. The science behind the glyphosate controversy will be discussed by our panelists - two of the leading independent scientific experts on glyphosate from King’s College London and The Ramazzini Institute.

Dr. Michael Antoniou is a Reader in Molecular Genetics, and Head of the Gene Expression and Therapy Group, King’s College London. His research interests focus on the molecular mechanisms of gene regulation and development of gene expression systems for biotechnological applications. He also uses molecular profiling (“omics”) tools to investigate the endocrine disruptive capability of low, environmentally relevant doses of key pesticides and other chemical pollutants.
Charles Benbrook is the Executive Director of the Heartland Health Research Alliance and is leading the Management Team carrying out the Heartland Study. This long-term clinical study is assessing the impacts of herbicide exposures across the Midwest on birth outcomes, the health of pregnant women, and children’s development. Benbrook has also served for four years as an expert witness for plaintiffs in Roundup-non-Hodgkin lymphoma litigation, and is also working on litigation involving paraquat and Parkinson’s disease and chlorpyrifos and developmental neurotoxicity. Chuck has published several scientific papers on pesticide use, risks, and regulation. He has a PhD in agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an undergraduate degree from Harvard University. His research and advocacy for change has focused on agricultural impacts on public health and the environment, soil health and water conservation, pesticide use and regulation, biotechnology, and ag policy and politics. Ed Brown had attended Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania, where he earned two degrees in Electronic Media/Journalism and Applied Speech, where he leveraged his abilities to later become a writer for The NFL Today and NCAA College Football and Basketball at CBS Sports in New York City. He then honed his skills in the entertainment industry while working at an elite internet company (Sudden Industries) where he worked directly on numerous websites (The Awful Truth, Inside the Actor’s Studio, World Cinema) and became a Producer on the first ever televised program broadcast by an internet company (V-Mations). As Writer, Director, Producer, Narrator and Editor, Ed had essentially served as the entire creative force for the project, “Unacceptable Levels” which had been selected by 35 international film festivals, and had gone on to win four distinct awards (including Best Documentary as the FIFE International Film Festival). Ed has also moved on to Direct and Produce two additional follow up films about toxic chemicals. “A New Resistance” and “Advance Warning” will also work to educate and inspire millions of people to make changes in their lives regarding toxic chemicals in 2022.
