Dov grew up in a religious Zionist Jewish community in New York City. The grandson of pogrom survivors and descendant of Jews fleeing European-Christian persecution, Dov is acutely aware of the evils of antisemitism and the critical need for honesty around that history. Also at a young age, Dov identified problems with the one-sided Zionist narrative surrounding him. In response, he spent years studying the roots of Zionism and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including producing a culminating college thesis on the sociopolitical impacts of Zionism and Israeli nationalism on modern Jewish identity. Over several years, he worked closely on-the-ground with Palestinian and Israeli NGOs and activists seeking to build peace and understanding. While Dov has taken a step back from local work in Israel-Palestine, his studies and first-hand experiences there prepared him for his current advocacy for Indigenous sovereignty and environmental justice.
