Al in Education. • What Can We Do?
1 Team Avoid
Reverting to traditional teaching methods in order to avoid risks associated with Al in education.
2 Team Ban It
Detecting and preventing Al-generated
3 Team Embrace
Acknowledging the presence and potential of Al in education and seeking to educate students about it.
Risks of Al
1 GPT4 Models can make mistakes/hallucinatIions
2 GPT Models don't have "common sense" understanding
3 GPT Models don't have causal reasoning but rather associative reasoningl
Potentials of Al
1 Better learning results via personalized tutors that adapt to learning style
Democratization of 1:1 Coaching & Private Lessons in GPT models on phones
2 Assessment
3 Teachers can have more time for students, can use less time for testing
If we allow it to. Al could finally disrupt and improve traditional teaching methods in
ways we could only imagine.

"Helpfulness brings people into focus." -- Stanley Pokras
An AI Response:
This quote from Stanley Pokras speaks to the power of helpfulness in creating meaningful connections between people and fostering a sense of community.
When we make a conscious effort to be helpful to others, we start to see the world in a different way. We become more attuned to the needs of those around us and more open to the possibility of making a positive difference in their lives.
Acts of helpfulness can take many forms, from lending a hand to someone in need, to offering words of encouragement or support, to simply being present and attentive to the people around us. Whatever form it takes, helpfulness has a way of bringing people into focus and creating a sense of connection and shared purpose.
This is especially important in a world that can sometimes feel disconnected and isolating. By being helpful to others, we can break down barriers and build bridges between people, creating a sense of community and a shared commitment to making the world a better place.
In the end, the quote from Stanley Pokras reminds us of the transformative power of kindness and the importance of being attentive to the needs of those around us. By making a conscious effort to be helpful and supportive, we can bring people into focus and create a more connected, compassionate, and caring world for all.
Leo:
AI Tutoring can help us become AWARE of our own thinking processes, a new level of consciousness.
Education shifts from knowing what is outside ourselves (objective knowledge) to knowing our own subjectivity (thinking and feeling = wisdom)
Fruits of education AUGMENTED from simply knowing what is outside ourselves (objective knowledge) to knowing our own subjectivity (thinking and feeling = wisdom) so that we are in the driver's seat for being an agent for change (in ourselves and in our society.)
In the "Frank Sinatra" theory of education" DO-BE-Do-BE-Do the emphasis is on DOing and BEing. Cf. ::https://quoteinvestigator.com/2013/09/16/do-be-do/:: In higher levels of education we are assessed by our doing and our being (formational), not simply by what we "know" (informational.)

Much focus has been on the "problem" of young people "cheating" on their essay assignments. Change the assignment to: "Briefly summarize the informational content of this unit, and then WRITE about how this content helps transform your own thinking and how it will help you transform the world." I believe Kat used the term, discernment, as a goal for education.
