Shannon McArthur to Panelists and Attendees (11:14 AM)

Come get to know us better! Everyone is welcome to come to the AfterChat!

Rain Martin to Panelists and Attendees (11:15 AM)

Yes! <3

Maureen Edwardson to Panelists and Attendees (11:15 AM)

Fundamental

Dinesh N to Panelists and Attendees (11:21 AM)

I feel education today seems geared towards producing slaves for corporations.

Rain Martin to Panelists and Attendees (11:24 AM)

So brilliant. Thank you for this initiative

Diane Skidmore to Panelists and Attendees (11:27 AM)

Wonderful!! Cultivating a rounded human being - caring, compassionate and even spiritual. As opposed to what we have at the moment (mostly) - we learn how to get a job and buy into the material world. (Very little heart and soul)

Maureen Edwardson to Panelists and Attendees (11:28 AM)

Everything is related to everything else...information is entangled

Kathryn Alexander, MA to Panelists and Attendees (11:28 AM)

Thank you Ken!

Maureen Edwardson to Panelists and Attendees (11:28 AM)

fundamental connection...oneness

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (11:29 AM)

Hooray for awareness of participation…

Shannon McArthur to Panelists and Attendees (11:29 AM)

Rather than atoms, we are cells,

selves within the One We Are…

Kathryn Alexander, MA to Panelists and Attendees (11:29 AM)

Here we can really learn from the indigenous people - they understand connected relationship.

Diane Skidmore to Panelists and Attendees (11:29 AM)

Yesterday, Yo Yo Ma on Desert Island Discs (a UK radio programme) said, "Culture, specifically music, turns 'the other' into 'us'"!!

Maureen Edwardson to Panelists and Attendees (11:29 AM)

Bruce Lipton...we are cells in the body of grater humanity and all of life

Shannon McArthur to Panelists and Attendees (11:30 AM)

Yeah, Bruce!

Diane Skidmore to Panelists and Attendees (11:30 AM)

Drops of water in the ocean of live xxx

  • life xxx

Kathryn Alexander, MA to Panelists and Attendees (11:34 AM)

Is coordination being n relationship?

Jane M to Panelists and Attendees (11:35 AM)

It needs to start with self care-self compassion.

Kathryn Alexander, MA to Panelists and Attendees (11:37 AM)

This whole conversation seems to be coming from a separated place into a connected place. I wonder how different it might be if it started from a connected place….

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (11:40 AM)

J. Krishnamurti schools in India and schools such as The Last School in Auroville follow this method of co-creation with the learner. Also, Swaraj University founded by Manish Jain for higher learning is another wonderful example.

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (11:44 AM)

students at university so appreciated co-creating courses with me during the first week of the semester. Our engagement together grew beautifully from this week.

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (11:48 AM)

@Matt. That is great to hear. I teach in post-secondary education and am always looking for ways to co-create with students. Would love to connect with others who do this work and share ideas.

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (11:48 AM)

What a remarkable experience Scherto!

Barbro Esbjörnsdotter to Panelists and Attendees (11:48 AM)

Thank you Scherto!

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (11:49 AM)

@Matt, would love to share with you!

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (11:50 AM)

@Matt. that would be great. My e-mail is: emafflec@telus.net

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (11:51 AM)

@Matt, thank you will respond

Testing, grading is such a huge issue at university too!

Lynnea Franks to Panelists and Attendees (11:54 AM)

This testing and judging has changed in the UK since Covid - even by the authorities. I am sure it is the same elsewhere.  I had a conversation with educationalists in charge of budgets in South West UK today!

Dr. Carroy (Cuf) Ferguson to Panelists and Attendees (11:55 AM)

In alignment with today’s theme re: regenerative relational education, it appears to be quite consistent with what we did with adult education when I was dean of a college.  We introduced a new paradigm of learning and pioneered what is now called competency-based education.  Elements of this approach appear in an article I wrote many years ago.  Here’s the link to that article:  ::https://www.academia.edu/39363326/A_New_Paradigm_of_Learning_for_Urban_Adult_Learners_Challenges_for_Educators_and_Policymakers_Regarding_Education_and_Community_Service::

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (11:55 AM)

University accreditation bodies are slowly including more socially oriented concepts but as you say Kenneth, in the end, sadly the test matters most.

Lynnea Franks to Panelists and Attendees (11:55 AM)

Its because the kids haven’t been going to school or doing exams for 1 and half so have to be assessed in other ways.

Shannon McArthur to Panelists and Attendees (11:55 AM)

Thank you, Cuf!

Cindy Bledsoe to Panelists and Attendees (11:57 AM)

So blessed and grateful for this gathering today. This is my thesis topic at Ubiquity. At the Center for Cocreation, we have launched the project HARMONY'S CHILD, a multi-media experiential film project about harmony in education, based on Richard Dunne's work at Harmony in Education (UK) [see Richard's Humanity Rising session- where it all started! :)

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (11:57 AM)

Sounds fabulous, Cindy!

Jim Garrison to Panelists and Attendees (11:57 AM)

Reminder to sign up for our Chartres course July 4-11:  ::https://www.ubiquityuniversity.org/courses/virtual-dialectica-the-shapeshifting-of-gender-and-sexuality/::

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (11:58 AM)

@Cindy how interesting!!

Kathryn Alexander, MA to Panelists and Attendees (11:59 AM)

I’d like to hear more about what is actually being done. I don’t need to be convinced that we need to change…

Me to All panelists and other attendees (12:00 PM)

THE PHILLY FREE SCHOOL

There is a school here in Philadelphia that gives the participants from age 4 to 19 the task of deciding all aspects of the learning process

At the Philly Free School, students ages 4-19 explore freely, think critically, and work collaboratively, across ages, to govern themselves and their school. Through self-initiated activities, students learn the delicate balance between individual freedom and community responsibility. Along the way, they develop the internal resources to navigate, assess, and utilize the information and tools needed to thrive in modern society.

https://wikidelphia.org/Philly_Free_School_(PFS)::

I'm looking forward to learning more about this institution which is a private school with accommodation for family income.

Stan@othernetworks.org

Cindy Bledsoe to Panelists and Attendees (12:01 PM)

PHILLY FREE SCHOOL sounds intriguing. I'd like to learn more as well.

Jane M to Panelists and Attendees (12:01 PM)

The emphasis on Testing is indicative of an ongoing imbalance in Education. The emphasis is solely on the Academic-Cognitive domain-Mind, while there is little attention to the  Affective domain or Educating the Heart-Social Emotional education.

Cindy Bledsoe to Panelists and Attendees (12:01 PM)

https://www.theharmonyproject.org.uk/harmony-education/why-harmony/::  A working model with resources for teachers and startups.

Kathryn Alexander, MA to Panelists and Attendees (12:03 PM)

That’s why projects make a difference. It works or doesn’t and the why / learning is clear and useful.

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (12:04 PM)

Journals, when originated, encouraged this kind of collaborative learning

Cindy Bledsoe to Panelists and Attendees (12:04 PM)

Test-taking is focused on the past, does not nurture our creative thinking capacity, and doesn't cultivate new problem-solving to prepare us for the future. Regenerative models are timeless, mindful, integrated with nature's intelligence.

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (12:08 PM)

Beautiful Scherto, love how you describe ‘heart-centred’ inquiry.

Suzanne Jones to Panelists and Attendees (12:09 PM)

I'm happy to share my book (as a gift) Traditional Educational or Partnership Education based on these ideas and my experience as a teacher and student. suzannej@ymail.com (y not g).

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (12:09 PM)

We need a consortium of schools around the globe which are following these methods..it would be a wonderful resource to tap into..schools of the future

Cindy Bledsoe to Panelists and Attendees (12:09 PM)

LOVE Scherto's approach re WELLBEING and integrative approach to enable cocreation. This feels like a fuller expression of potential!

Cindy Bledsoe to Panelists and Attendees (12:11 PM)

Matt, part of our goal through HARMONY'S CHILD is to plant resources to create resonate groups around the globe for change in education. This is already occurring at Harmony Project. Many resources available. Workshops to come.

Cindy Bledsoe to Panelists and Attendees (12:14 PM)

This is a beautiful model for our conscious evolution.

Me to All panelists and other attendees (12:14 PM)

Agreements

Everything we know, everything we see, everything we do together depends on agreements. Language is a tool for making agreements, writing is a tool for recording agreements, money is a tool for enumerating and assigning value to our agreements. Agreements among people are the basis for our conscious reality. Without a process for agreed upon concepts, our reality would be awash with meaningless sensations.

Stanley R Pokras

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (12:14 PM)

@Cindy, yes a great model

Dr. Carroy (Cuf) Ferguson to Panelists and Attendees (12:15 PM)

In our competency-based approach, we did not give “grades”.  As a contract for learning, each competency had a set of criteria (which indicated the “what” of the learning process”) and a set of standards (which suggested “how well &/or conditions).  Project-based learning, as well as many other processes were possible to work on competencies.  Students could also create their own competency statements, with criteria & standards.  The outcomes that students received were designations of “completion”, “in progress,” and “no action”, along with “narrative evaluations”.  Prior learning was also valued & could be used to “demonstrate” what was learned, along with “new learning.”  There were many other aspects to this self-paced, competency-based process.  We viewed learning as a process, a journey, not as a product, destination.

Cindy Bledsoe to Panelists and Attendees (12:18 PM)

Community placemaking benefits from this educational approach. Nurtures strength and interconnectedness. Is people-centric. (not cars, government, etc...)

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (12:19 PM)

This type of learning has been very active since the mid 1980’s through the Coalition of Essential Schools. Although this network is no longer formally in existence, much of their work is on the website, ::http://essentialschools.org/:: . Read Ted Sizer’s work.

Kathryn Alexander, MA to Panelists and Attendees (12:21 PM)

Cuff - THAT is useful!! You should do a HR on education!

See you there!

Kathryn Alexander, MA to Panelists and Attendees (12:22 PM)

HA ‘drop outs’ are the canarys THEY are saying , “Hey guys -this isn’t working!”

It’s really not about the student, but about the system.

Cindy Bledsoe to Panelists and Attendees (12:23 PM)

He's describing our script! :)

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (12:23 PM)

It would be great to talk more about education's role in working on UN's SDGs.

Cindy Bledsoe to Panelists and Attendees (12:23 PM)

Indeed, Matt

Jane M to Panelists and Attendees (12:24 PM)

Those in positions of leadership within our education systems need to recognize and appreciate the Value/Need for Social Emotional education or Educating the Heart.  The mental health of Students and Teachers is at a crisis  point and this is where we need to address our efforts, at the system level.

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (12:26 PM)

From Ego to Eco

Jane M to Panelists and Attendees (12:27 PM)

@kathryn...agree..." the Canary in the coal mine."

Diane Skidmore to Panelists and Attendees (12:27 PM)

Yes, Scherto, human life is only a part of life itself. However, humans have been evolving and this very moment is the one (the stopping of modern life because of the pandemic) is the moment where we can make decisions to act in a different way. It's time to change our systems - the ones that put humans at the top rather than humans as being stewards and in tune with nature. Time to de-centre!! What a star you are!!

Me to All panelists and other attendees (12:28 PM)

Yes - distributed learning and doing... we can learn to work with the planed and each other as a common pool resource.

Diane Skidmore to Panelists and Attendees (12:28 PM)

And yes, to recognise that we are all responsible for all life!! We ARE the one (as Jim/Shannon said at the beginning xxx

Kathryn Alexander, MA to Panelists and Attendees (12:28 PM)

Center LIFE not human

Me to All panelists and other attendees (12:29 PM)

Yes - distributed learning and doing... we can learn to work with the planet and each other as a common pool resource.

Diane Skidmore to Panelists and Attendees (12:29 PM)

And the biggest part of education is about listening - not 'telling'!!

Shannon McArthur to Panelists and Attendees (12:29 PM)

Like the human cells in our bodies rely on many other organisms, the One We Are requires other beings to thrive. We are not alone, and I’m so grateful and entranced with the diversity of beings I get to play with!

Cindy Bledsoe to Panelists and Attendees (12:30 PM)

Info on the Ubiquity course?

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (12:30 PM)

Yes, Diane. Beautifully said, Shannon.

Richard Buckley to Panelists and Attendees (12:31 PM)

We have not developed the informational material yet.

Cindy Bledsoe to Panelists and Attendees (12:31 PM)

Me to All panelists and other attendees (12:33 PM)

Scherzo - welcome to the Age Of Helpfulness!

Diane Skidmore to Panelists and Attendees (12:33 PM)

And as we all say so often - education is a huge part of the solution

(Helpful education?)

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (12:33 PM)

Such an inspiring session Scherto and Kenneth, thank you!

Debra Kaiser to Panelists and Attendees (12:34 PM)

Living in Toronto, Canada, there have been educational choices for many years. My three children, now highly functioning, inclusive, caring, insightful young adults - wise contributors to self and others, all attended ‘alternative schools’.

“Alternative schools are safe, highly engaged, smaller school environments. They use non-traditional hands-on approaches to learning the required Ontario Ministry of Education Curriculum. Each school has a distinct identity and focus, such as democratic education, holistic learning, physical art, mindful living, entrepreneurship, social justice, community outreach and more. These schools are ideal for students seeking an alternative to mainstream education and who want to take an active role in their own learning.”

Diane Skidmore to Panelists and Attendees (12:35 PM)

Brilliant Debra!! Well done (re your children!!)

Shannon McArthur to Panelists and Attendees (12:35 PM)

Barbro Esbjörnsdotter to Panelists and Attendees (12:36 PM)

LOVE that, Jim!

Jane M to Panelists and Attendees (12:36 PM)

Thanks Debra. Great examples on alernative schools.

Diane Skidmore to Panelists and Attendees (12:36 PM)

Gosh. Imagine that! How to talk with the trees and the bees and the flowers (and the octopi) and - even each other!!!

first step - how to listen xxxxx

Jane M to Panelists and Attendees (12:37 PM)

I do wonder if we will ever achieve the same with tradtional Educations systems.

Matt Robertson to Panelists and Attendees (12:37 PM)

So agree Jim!

Shannon McArthur to Panelists and Attendees (12:37 PM)

Bound to the system of money…

Jane M to Panelists and Attendees (12:38 PM)

Yes Jim...coming from traditional Ed systems....we are in prison!

Jane M to Panelists and Attendees (12:39 PM)

Wat needs to change but it is falling on deaf ears.e know w

Shannon McArthur to Panelists and Attendees (12:39 PM)

Thank you so much for coming today! This has been inspiring and comforting!

Suzanne Jones to Panelists and Attendees (12:39 PM)
