David Stoney to Panelists and Attendees (11:53 AM ) #Maureen, Actually, in the central nervous system neurons are organized into functional networks, e.g. somatic sensation, somatic motor, smell, taste, sight, etc. Within these networks each neuron may have 100s, 1,000s, maybe several 1,000s connections to other neurons, but not 100,000s of connections. When neurons make connections outside of their functional systems there is a mixing of information called synesthesia, e.g., a particular sound will also be perceived as a color. Having a nervous system where every neuron connects to every other neuron would not be very useful for embodied human consciousness and perception…. David Stoney
