Many of the people I know have rationalized based on false facts from disinformation, such as the immigrants causing the issues, which triggers basic fears in them, esp if they've followed fox for years. They literally have different facts than i do, and don't believe when I share facts, or show them this (this is family). It's frustrating as all heck. The other people I know were mostly men who voted bc of the money (lower taxes) for their businesses. A couple of them told me this. The rest of the losses we all (esp women, minorities, immigrants, LGBQT) experience don't matter as much as their profits (my opinion from the conversations).

As an Australian living in France for the last 9 years, my opinions are that of as outsider, looking in. There are a few observables that, from my perspective, seem to typify the general the American story: a basic religious emotionalism / fundamentalism that lacks critical thing, the normalisation of violence , racism and inability for self criticism. The US has always had the best and the worst, now we have the worst and all its consequences not just for the US, but everyone around the world. This is a crisis and what is missing, l believe is critical thinking and philosophical foundations embedded in the education system. Jesus left the US a long time ago.
